Niall was at his childhood home - watching his younger sister while their parents were out - packing several large bags full of everything he'd need on tour, as he'd then fly out the following day for the next leg of tour. Y/n was trailing behind him everywhere he went in the house, never leaving him alone - even when he went to the bathroom, she was standing outside the door, waiting for him.
"Niall, are you sure you have to leave yet?" Y/n whined through the bathroom door, hearing a sigh from her brother, who was currently halfway through going for a wee.
"Yes, Y/n. I do have to go - and no, I can't extend my departure any longer." Niall told his sister, washing his hands and opening the door to the bathroom. Y/n didn't move out of the way, too caught up in her argumentative state and missing her older brother already.
"But, Niall, what if-"
"No, Y/n, I'm sorry. I'm leaving tomorrow and nothing will change that. Just please try to understand," Niall pleaded, placing a hand firmly on one of Y/n's shoulders, trying to convey some sort of comforting reassurance while also using a firm tone to stand his ground. Y/n, however, shook her head and took the opportunity to quickly slip through the bathroom door and jump on Niall's back, clinging to him like a monkey.
Niall chuckled, irritated but slightly amused by his sister's defiance, despite the fact that it would get her nowhere.
"Y/n... I need to pack, little monkey," He reminded her with a laugh."Well you can't pack if you can't move, can you? Huh, Niall?" Y/n grinned, thinking she had won. Niall rolled his eyes, though she couldn't see it.
"Oh, yeah? Watch this, munchkin!" Niall countered, swinging Y/n around so that she was straddling his waist, then he placed her on her feet. He ruffled her hair playfully, gently moving her to the side, and she let out a childish whining noise that made Niall giggle.
"Niall!" Y/n groaned, dragging out the sound of her brother's name dramatically. She continued to complain to him for another hour straight, following him back and forth between his bedroom, the bathroom, and the hall closet. All the while, Niall was trying his hardest to have patience and remain calm, but she wouldn't let it go. She just couldn't understand why he wouldn't listen to her - after all, she was only trying to get him to stay.
"Niall? What do I have to do to stop you from leaving?" Y/n asked desperately. Niall was entirely fed up with her arguments at that point.
"You don't have to do anything. Like I told you before, I've already extended my time off by a week and a half, and I can't prolong it any more. I'm losing time to record and go over boring management details that are actually irritatingly important." Niall replied firmly, wishing she would leave him alone or change the subject. Y/n didn't notice how annoyed Niall had become; she was too busy wracking her brain for an excuse to keep him from going back to work.
"I'm sure there's something you can figure out... Maybe you could talk to management and see if-" Y/n was cut off by a fuming Niall, who stopped what he was doing and turned to face her with an obviously pissed-off expression.
"Y/N! STOP IT! I'M LEAVING, SO JUST FORGET ABOUT TRYING TO STOP ME! LEAVE ME ALONE AND STOP BEING SUCH A BABY!" Niall yelled in anger, perhaps louder than he'd intended. He grabbed his sister's wrist and stomped out to the hall with her tripping up behind him. He let go of her wrist and stormed back to his bedroom, shaking his head frustratedly before roughly shutting his door. So much for being patient and staying calm...
Y/n stood at the end of the hall, just staring at the closed door. The door that led to her big brother's bedroom, that was now there to shut her out. She thought about that door for a long moment, and how it resembled her relationship with Niall. He was always gone, away for work, and she never got to see much of him. And even when he was home, he had more important things to do than hang around with his younger sister, now that he was a twenty-year-old, world-famous millionaire. Even on his break, he had little time to himself, and couldn't afford to spend time being unproductive.
