"Y/n, we're leaving now!" Harry called up the stairs, grabbing his bag and walking out to the front of the house to start the car. Y/n quickly scooped up her backpack and phone, running out to join her dad, and the two began their drive. They were headed to the studio, where Harry was going to record his next song on his new album. Having arrived in a shorter amount of time than they expected, they had time to grab a coffee on their way into the recording room.

"Hello, everyone!" Y/n announced herself, receiving several waves, smiles and hellos from the people in the room. She chucked her bag to the side and made herself comfortable in her usual spot; an armchair in the corner, beside the glass wall that separated the booth from the rest of the studio. She would always take her place in that same armchair where she'd watch her dad sing, then sometimes she'd have a play-around and dominate the microphone whilst everyone was on break.

"Morning, Y/n! In a bright mood today, are we?" Mitch greeted the teenager with a smile. He was fiddling around with the strings on his guitar, making sure it was tuned and ready to play when the time came. Y/n shot back a goofy expression, sticking her tongue out and crossing her eyes, letting out a short snicker. Mitch was her favorite person that her dad worked with; she and her dad often visited him outside of work, and Y/n and Mitch always had a good laugh together.

"Yep! Had time for a coffee before we came in, so I've got a bit more energy this time," Y/n chuckled, and Mitch shook his head playfully; the girl loved coffee, he knew that.

"When are you not full of energy?" Mitch joked with a sarcastic roll of his eyes.

Throughout the first couple of hours of recording vocals and background instrumentals, Harry and his studio crew managed to cover quite a bit of the song's basics, though they still wanted to tweak it a little bit. The "masterpiece" - Harry liked to call it - they were working on had an excitable beat to it, and Y/n spent a good amount of time vibing and dancing to the sound crew's work-in-progress.

The studio gang were taking a break from their hard work; the producers and composers had gone to get drinks and food, Harry and Mitch were chatting about nonsense whilst laid on the carpeted floor for unknown reasons, and Y/n was reading her latest novel, upside down in her armchair with her feet on the wall. She finished a third of her book in a matter of minutes before deciding to get up and move around for a bit, so she made her way into the booth and stuck a pair of headphones on. Harry and Mitch immediately got up and waited with both anticipation and amusement.

"Summer of '69!" She called out to the two men in the studio, and she waited for them to figure out how to put that specific song's background music on so she had something to sing along to.

"I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it 'til my fingers bled
Was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit, Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far"

Harry couldn't keep the huge grin off his face as he admired his incredible teenager while she sang so beautifully. He'd heard her sing on so many occasions, it'd be impossible to keep count, but he'd still fond over the angelic sound every time it hit his ears.

"Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life"

The rest of the studio crew entered the room again, all wearing unsurprised but cheerful expressions once they heard the familiar and incredible voice coming from the booth.

"Ain't no use in complainin'
When you've got a job to do
Spent my evenings down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you, yeah

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh, and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh, yeah.
Back in the summer of '69, oh."

"Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever, forever, no! yeah!

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
I think about you, wonder what went wrong"

Harry went into the booth and quickly joined Y/n for the next verse. She had the biggest smile when her dad began singing with her. He changed octaves and harmonized with Y/n and together, they created a duet out of a solo song. The sound was amazing and it captivated the whole crew's attention, all eyes on the iconic father-daughter duo.

"Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that it'd last forever
Oh, and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life"

Harry left the next part for Y/n, and she definitely shined bright. She was trying to keep focus, barely holding back a laugh at how spontaneous the karaoke session was, but still somehow managed to sing so well it gave everybody goosebumps.

"Oh, yeah.
Back in the summer of '69, oh.
It was the summer of '69, oh, yeah.
Me and my baby in '69, oh.
It was the summer, the summer, the summer of '69, yeah."

The two talented vocalists left the booth with a loud laugh and a playful argue over who was more skilled with their voice, but drowned each other in compliments at the same time.

"Guys, that was incredible!" Mitch chuckled, ruffling Y/n's hair and lightly fist-bumping Harry's shoulder. "You do that every single time we record, and it still blows my freaking mind," he admits with a laugh, followed by a round of laughter erupting throughout the room.

"Who's up for another song?" Y/n asked with a smirk, hands on her hips as she looked around the room for a volunteer. Everyone just chuckled and shook their heads, all too shy to try out their voices as they'd never actually had the job of singing when putting songs together. Harry grinned and piggy-backed his daughter back into the booth, letting her pick their next song. Y/n chose Livin' On A Prayer by Bon Jovi, and whilst she covered the high notes, Harry took the low ones.
