Author's Note: After a mini-break, it's safe to say that I'm back! The writer's block caught up with me again and I have to admit, I had very little desire to write. So I figured, it would be better now to take a short break, refresh and then push through to the end of this project...or at least its first stage. I have to say I am beyond excited to start editing this project. I have so many ideas as to how I can improve this story, especially its later parts is I can tell my writing quality has suffered due to me pushing myself to write, rather than wait to be inspired...which also has been a hit or miss for me. XD Just a friendly reminder that practice and consistency is what will make you a better writer in the long run! I recently had to remind myself of that as well.
Anyway, I hope you all have had a wonderful day/week, and I'll see you in the next chapter. Enjoy <3.
I was too drained and exhausted to fight Victor as he led me towards my bed chambers. He held my hand as delicately as he ever had. Leading the way, he would glance over his shoulder back at me, a smile twitching up the corners of his mouth. I knew he was trying to put me at ease, but I couldn't escape the gory scene that was replaying in my head.
Tumas was never a man that had been well-loved by anyone, nor had he been very smart, which left no surprise that it was so easy for Valentina to manipulate him into doing her bidding so easily. What had she promised him? My head on a silver platter?
I was also berating myself for being so foolish. I had let my worry over Amelia consume me, and rushed headlong into the trap that had been set for me. I assumed the voice I had heard had been Valentina's. If so, why didn't she watch and make sure Tumas had finished the job? What could be more important than the so-called vengeance that she must crave?
Even as tired as I felt, I wasn't sure how easily I would find sleep. Part of me was still stuck against the hallway wall, gasping for breath. Thinking about it made my stomach flip and my chest tighten, and by the time I was tucked away in bed again, I found it was too difficult to breathe and the sheets were too confining. Victor had stepped away, presumably to clean up the mess, leaving me alone in the room, which I wasn't entirely sure I was comfortable with.
