My heart felt like it was going to leap directly out of my chest for its hammering. The creature loomed over me, its eye sockets boring down, and I could feel the heat from the flames leaping outwards from those rudimentary holes in its face.

Whatever it was, it didn't seem to be made out of flesh and blood the same way a living creature would be. As it swung a long arm towards me, it looked like it was cobbled together from dirt and stone; an amalgamation of animated mud. I had fallen backward in my efforts to scrabble away from its reach. A low, grinding chuckle reverberated against my skull, and I screamed from the intense pressure inside my head.

You fear me, but flaunt my gifts I have given you. You are foolish, girl. I will use you, and break you, then discard you. It lunged towards me, seizing my arm and twisting it painfully, forcing me to draw closer to it. The yellow flames within it were so intense I shut my eyes and looked away instinctively. It gave me a rough shake, trying to force me to look at it.

"Please," I whimpered, "let me go." It only tightened its grip, its mud-flesh cutting deeply into my arm. Any tighter, and it would soon draw blood.

Why did you come here, if you were only going to run from me? Tell me, my child, why did you dare look upon me in my prison?

I didn't have a direct answer for it, I was afraid. Curiosity and anxiety had driven me here. I had been so worried that I was being denied answers, that I hadn't stopped to think why I wasn't being given those answers in the first place. "I...I wanted to know what Victor was hiding." I managed to choke out, full of regret.

It laughed again, and it felt like my bones were being rattled against one another. Well, you found me, my dear son's greatest secret. He came to me during his lowest moment, his greatest time of need. And I gave him what he asked for. He received the greatest of gifts I may bestow on a mortal. And, then, how does he repay me? He rebuilds the walls around me that those petulant Templars constructed, trapping me here for as long as these walls stand. He would ally himself with mortals and not his own kind, and therefore doom my children to destruction.
