I might have made the girl version of Aaron better than the original 👀😭
Warning: A VERY BRIEF mentions of a dark topic (it will be censored, but just putting it out there)
OK so I did not remember how heavy this chapter was, so reading it was... something else. Don't worry! There is nothing too serious, it just came as a surprise since this is a book aboot a young family coming back home and settling in, yep, that's all there is hehe...
Al's POV:
"Wait hold up- dad's journal? How do you know it's his journal?" Damian questioned Alan squinting his eyes in what I believe to be a doubtful expression (Al has Aspergers, so bear with me since I have limited knowledge on that matter).
"Because this is his handwriting." Alan showed the inside of the journal, but it wasn't English.
"What in the world is that?" Mincy asked.
"Wait," I reached over for the book. "I recognize this. It's encrypted!"
"Why on Earth would dad write in a journal and encrypt it?" Damian asked.
"To keep it from us?" Mincy offered.
"Maybe, or maybe it's from someone else entirely." I inquired. I look over to Zula. "Did you ever read anything on the Interdimensional War before it came to Earth?"
"Tons! Turns out, the monsters are a sort of parasite that feeds off the dimension it invades. There have been portal tears from where the initial invasion took place that scientists have found ruins of paintings, technology, and books!" Zula explained.
"Dad read a lot of books during his free time. From what I've concluded some of thos books he might have read were those from other dimensions. As you can see here, none of these words make sense. None of them match any language from our world either." I explained.
"So what do we do with it (put it back-)? Obviously we can't read it." Sean stated.
I gave him a look that I see dad use with the others. Even though he doesn't use it on me, I see the effect it has on my other siblings. He usually tells me outright so that I can understand. He has told me that he uses it to make them infer that he knows something. So I mimicked his facial expression and stared at Sean's forehead so that I could maintain the expression for further optimization. His eyes grew wide and his eyebrows knitted together.
"Wait..." Sean started. "YOU know it??" (✨Plot convenience✨) The others looked to me.
"There used to be an archive at the library in our old home. I borrowed one of the copied books and took it home for me to challenge myself. At first, it was indiscernible, but during my usual bedtime I woke up to hear dad talking in his sleep (A group of the kids sleeps every night in his bed, Al is one of them). He kept switching from English to the other one. After a while I could even read the book without trouble. I brush up on it every once in a while now to keep it fresh."
The other stared in silence. Damian leaned closer with a face that was straight with no characteristics. "Al, that is one of the nerdiest and gnarliest things I've ever heard you do." He flashed me a thumbs up, which he and the others have told me was code for when I did a good job. I nodded and looked down at the writing. We all sat in silence once more, until Damian asked again. "So are we gonna read it orrr..."
We all shrugged, so I flipped to the first pages of the journal.
It was my ninth birthday last month and of course we're busy building the weapon that could destroy all of the monsters for good: The Soul Eater. The General told me that this was a very crucial weapon for this war, and that I was to not tell ANYBODY about how it works, not even to the people making it. I find it weird how he wants me to keep it secret, but it's the reason why I am writing this in the language of Krievna.
