Happy Veterans Day!
This is in honor of my relatives who fought, and some died, in battle for freedom.
I know this is a little late. This is outside of the actual story, since I don't want to spoil ;).
Aaron's POV:
As I dream of the movie my kids and I watched last night, a faint thud pulls my conscious out from slumber. I groan as the light invades my eyes (he is blind in one eye, but not completely, all he sees in that eye is shapes and shadows). I make a check on who was on my bed.
Al? Yep.
Opal? On my pillow as usual.
Griffin? Using my, padded, legs as a pillow. I had to start wearing pads on my prosthetics since he won't sleep on anything else.
Zoe? On my chest.
Petra- wait, where's Petra?
I lift myself slightly to take a look around the room. The sheets pulled slightly to one side of the bed. I peer over to the floor to find Petra. Her body was contorted with one leg vertically on the bed and the other crossing under it. Her arms were twisting in uncomfortable positions, but she was still sleeping like a rock with drool smearing her face.
I chuckled quietly as I use my arm to lift her back into bed. Immediately she rolled up against me and mumbled something unintelligible. The room was quiet once more with only the sounds of breathing heard. Suddenly, the sound of a buzz erupted from the nightstand. I wince at the sound as I pick up my phone to stop the buzzing.
It was a call coming from my mom. Still in a sleepy state, I answer groggily.
"Hello?"
"Bonjour mon fils!"
"Agh, maman. Too loud."
"Oh!- oh sorry. Is this better?" She whispered.
"Mmhm. So, good morning. Why are you calling so early?"
"Right, I wish to call you to let you know to cancel all your plans today, and don't leave the bed."
I look at my phone as if it would show me my mom's face. I put it back near my ear again. "Wh... okay? Why?"
"No reason! Now, go back to bed and we'll be over in a few minutes!"
"We? Maman who else is coming-"
The sound of a click could be heard from the other side. I sigh in resign as I place my phone back on the stand. What is my mom up to? I hear a shuffle and feel movement on my chest. I look down to see Zoe rubbing her eyes sleepily. She looks at me with a blank face.
"Mémé?"
"Yes, mémé is coming soon. Go back to sleep sweetie."
She grunts and falls back to sleep. It wasn't long until I heard shuffling from outside my room. Whispers and giggling, most likely from my kids, came from downstairs. I hear footsteps walk up to my door. As the door opens I see my mom peep her head into the room. She sees me and grins.
"Would you like me to take the children mon cher?"
"Oui maman, thank you." I smile back at her as she tiptoes and grabs the littler ones first. She had to pry Griffin off of my leg. Al woke up on his own and stumbled downstairs, and Petra... well I didn't mind if she stuck around. She will wake up in her own time and I'm in no hurry to get her out of her comatose state.
As I hear commotion come from downstairs, I take time to think about what is going on. It wasn't my birthday, that happened 4 months ago. Can't be any of the kids' birthdays either. Not Father's Day... nor Daisy Day... what on Earth is happening?? Before I could get a headache, the door opens again.
