Thump, thump, thump.

That was the only thing that Aria could feel when she woke up on the side of the street. Her heart beating like bongo drums in her ears.

"Ouch," She muttered as she sat up, but immediately felt dizzy. The world around her spun as her vision went blurry. She couldn't help but wonder what the hell happened.

She brought her hand to the back of her head, only to feel something wet and warm. She moved her hand away and looked at it, and she began to realise that she was bleeding.

A sense of horror ran through the young girl's veins. What the hell was going on?

Aria was quick to rush to her feet and run home, yelling for her mother's help. "Mom!" she screamed as she barged through the front door, only to realise that everything inside her home was different.

Her eyes scanned the living room as she stared at what used to be modern furniture, now seemed like it was from the 50s. Like an old sitcom.

She ran upstairs to her mother's room, only to find that she wasn't there. She was nowhere. "Mom!" She screamed again, warm tears now streaming down her cheeks.

She was scared.

She ran back downstairs, and out the front door again. Maybe, her mother was called into work for a last-minute case and she failed to tell her.

Her legs pumped against the rough concrete as she ran into town. Everything looked so different. Everyone was wearing dresses and suits, their hair done nicely. The men held briefcases while the women walked happily.

This wasn't like Aria's home at all. The young girl continued to sprint, her brown hair flowing in the wind.

She didn't stop until she ran into an older woman, knocking the young girl off of her feet.

"Oh, dear. I'm so sorry," The woman spoke in an apologetic tone.

Aria looked up to realise that it was someone she knew—Mrs. Davis.

"Mrs Davis! Do you know where my mom is?" Aria spoke, returning to her feet.

"Who's Mrs. Davis? My name's Mrs. Hart, hunny," The woman spoke, her tone turning to one of confusion.

Aria only looked at her with a look of confusion. That was Mrs. Davis, she was sure of it.

Despite the young girl's confusion, she decided to play along with the act. Something was wrong with her town, and she wasn't sure why.

"Right... Mrs. Hart, do you know where my mom is?" She asked again.

"I'm not too sure, Hunny." She spoke with a sad smile.

"Oh... okay," Aria spoke with a slight nod. "Thank you, though."

After thanking Mrs Davis—or Mrs Hart, she began making her way to the sheriff's office once again.

She was determined to find her mother, and she wasn't going to stop until she did.

Aria ran and ran, dodging a weaving between people until she arrived at her mother's work. Except, just like all the other places in town, It looked different.

What used to be a modern police station, now looked ancient. It wasn't ancient, but to Aria, it was strange.

Aria shook the uneasy feeling off and ran up the stairs and into the station. Barging through the large doors, straight to her mother's office.

She let out a sigh of relief when she saw that her mother was indeed, inside of her office. Sorting through files in front of an old computer.

She ran up to her mom and wrapped her arms around her without a word, which caught her mother by surprise.
