The next evening arrived quicker than I anticipated. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, I stood in Mabel and Dipper's room, staring at myself in the mirror. The black jumpsuit clung to my frame perfectly, sleek and stylish, but I still felt a flutter of nerves in my stomach.
Mabel bounced excitedly beside me, her own outfit a riot of colors that screamed 'Mabel' in every way. She had transformed into a whirlwind of glitter and frills, radiating her signature charm. "You look amazing, Y/N! Seriously, this jumpsuit is like, chef's kiss.", she declared, waving her hands dramatically as if conducting an orchestra.
"Thanks, Mabel.", I replied, brushing my fingers over the smooth fabric.
"Okay! Time for the makeup!", Mabel declared as she rummaged through her collection.I chuckled nervously, glancing at my reflection. "I mean, I'm already wearing a jumpsuit. Do I really need all that?"
"Absolutely! The jumpsuit is only the beginning!", she insisted, holding up a tube of shimmery eyeshadow. "You'll look like a total star! Now, what kind of look are you going for? Glamorous, mysterious, or, like, 'I'm just casually slaying at a fancy party'?"
I bit my lip, contemplating. "Maybe a bit of all three?"
Mabel grinned, clearly loving the challenge. "Perfect! We'll start with your eyes. I think some subtle sparkle will do the trick." I sat down on a chair in front of the mirror and she leaned closer, expertly applying the eyeshadow, her fingers deftly blending the colors.
As she worked, I could feel my nerves settling a bit. "You're really good at this, Mabel. I don't think I could ever do something like this on my own."
"Thanks!", she said, her tone bright. "It's all about practice. Just like crafting sweaters! You've just got to find the right shades to match your vibe." She paused, smirking. "And don't worry—I won't let you look like a total weirdo. No neon green eyeshadow this time!"
"Ha, thanks for that!", I laughed, imagining how disastrous that would be.
Mabel finished with my eyes, and I turned my head slightly to admire her handiwork. "Wow, that actually looks really nice!"
"Right?!", she beamed, her enthusiasm infectious. "Now, for the lips! What do you think? Classic red, or should we go with something softer?"
"Maybe something a bit softer.", I suggested, not wanting to draw too much attention to myself, especially with the Northwest family and their prying eyes.
"Good choice!", Mabel said, reaching for a soft pink gloss and applying it delicately. "Alright, you're officially a makeup queen. Now, let's tackle the hair!"
I ran my fingers through my hair, which had fallen into soft waves, unsure of how to style it. "I'm not really sure what to do with it, though. What do you think?"
Mabel furrowed her brow, her hands on her hips as she surveyed my hair. "Hmm...we could do a fancy updo, or maybe a half-up, half-down? Or...what if we went with a simple low bun? It's classy, and we can add some hairpins for flair!"
I nodded slowly, appreciating her ideas but feeling a bit overwhelmed. "A low bun sounds nice, but I don't want it to look too stiff or formal."
"Don't worry, I've got you covered!", Mabel said confidently. "Let's do it! Just follow my lead."
She handed me a hairbrush, and I started to comb through my hair as she guided me. After a few moments of tossing ideas back and forth, I decided to go for it. I gathered my hair at the nape of my neck, twisting it into a loose bun that felt both relaxed and elegant.
"Now, for the finishing touch!", Mabel exclaimed, digging through her treasure trove of hair accessories. She pulled out some delicate gold hairpins shaped like stars and gently inserted them into my bun. "There! It's simple yet stunning!"
