"The Fears Behind The Truth"
~~
Jimin was preparing for lunch when Jungkook appeared out of Kang-soo’s room, slowly closing the door behind him. He approached the kitchen to place the glass in the sink.
“How are they doing? All good?” Jimin looked up at the latter to find him wiping his hand on the towel. Jungkook nodded in answer.
Jimin watched as Jungkook stood there for a minute or two, before approaching him with fast steps. Before Jimin could ask what happened, Jungkook wrapped his arms around Jimin’s waist, engulfing him in a hug. Jimin froze as Jungkook hid his face at the junction where Jimin’s shoulder and neck meets, at the place that Jungkook knew was sensitive.
“Just for a moment. Please.” Jungkook whispered. The tone he said please with was so vulnerable that Jimin’s hand immediately went up to circle around Jungkook’s shoulder, rubbing soothing circles on his back.
They stayed like that for a few minutes, before Jimin felt Jungkook pulling back from the hug. His eyes still closed but they were stung with some tears at the corners that Jimin thumbed away. Jungkook opened his eyes slowly with a sigh and smiled once his eyes met with Jimin’s fond ones. “I’m sorry if I caught you off-guard. I just needed something to hold onto, to be assured that it’s all real and I’m not in some kind of daze.”
Jungkook still had his hands around Jimin’s waist that Jimin was aware of, but he focused on what Jungkook was saying. “You’re not in any daze, Jungkook-ah. Everything’s real.” With that assurance, Jungkook pulled his hands back, rubbing his face and pulled at his hair. “You okay now?” Jimin asked.
“Yeah, better than before.” Jungkook sighed, a content smile tugging at his lips. “I’m just so glad that Eomma is back in our life. I never thought I would ever meet, or even see Eomma in this life, not after getting to know about her death. I’ve never predicted that she would be back someday, well not this way, at least. To be honest, things have been quite unpredictable recently. Hasn’t it?” Jungkook asked, more to himself, but Jimin answered nonetheless.
“You can’t predict what life throws at you at some point. I’ve already given up predicting and expecting certain things from life. It’s more like….I’m just going with the flow? You can say that. I also had never thought Appa would be back someday, not this way. But I’m glad he did.” Jimin really never expected for such things to occur at some point of his life. But now, he’s grateful, as things were falling into place.
“Guess we both are going through the same thing.” Jungkook laughed, a small, airy one that felt like he scoffed. Jimin hummed.
“What next?” Jungkook was by his side as he spoke up again, helping him in cooking lunch. “As all the mess you’ve been in is now cleared, what are you going to do now?”
Jimin sighed. He had this same conversation with Taehyung the previous night. “I need to discuss it with Appa and Kang-soo uncle first. I’m thinking of going back to Busan.” That was just a thought, for now.
After that day, they all got used to Yoon-ah being there with them and were now favourable with her condition. Yoon-ah too, was slowly beginning to get used to all these people around her, with Kang-soo’s help of course.
Even after a lot of effort and convincing from Kang-soo, Yoon-ah was not able to recognise Jungkook as her son. That broke Jungkook’s heart that his mother was so traumatised that she couldn’t believe him being her son, until Yoongi brought Sarah to his house, who coincidentally decided to visit in order to surprise Jungkook and his father, carrying young Jungkook’s belongings from the orphanage with her.
