"Jimin's childhood"

~~

It was the best day for the 7 year old boy who was sitting inside the car and enjoying the views through the windows. Little Jimin was happy because his father was coming back from his military service for the holidays. It was unexpected for both his mother and for him that his father's holidays were one month early this time.

His mother was driving the car while humming the songs which were her and her husband's favourite. She hadn't expected that her husband would be returning in a few minutes. They were laughing and talking about some funny stories of their family members.

But what Jimin's mother didn't notice was that there's a lorry which was coming towards them at full speed. And before she could do anything, the lorry had already crashed with her car making it flip two times on the road.

The people near the place gathered around their car and the lorry to see if they were alive or not. When they looked closely, they found that the lady had many cuts and injuries in her upper body but had put an unconscious child safely in her embrace. And the lorry driver had died on the spot with blood coming out of his head.

They pulled them out and called the ambulance and searched for anything which could help them get any contact with the family of the victims. Then someone heard the ringing of a phone and searched for it.
When they got the phone, the caller ID was written as 'Hubby❣️'.

Mr. Park's pov

I was standing with my luggage at the station, waiting for my wife and my son whom I have not met for a few months. Don't know how long it will take for them to come here. It's not even that far, only 30 minutes away. I should try calling her to know where she is. Let's try.

I took out my phone and was calling her, when one of my teammates, Junho called me. "Sir, do you like to come with us? We can drop off at some place to chill out."
"Ah, no no it's okay. Actually my wife and my son are coming to pick me." I answered while checking my phone. Why isn't she picking up? "Oh, okay. Then I'm get-"
"Hello!! Where are you?"
"Hello sir? Are you the husband of the owner of this phone?"

"Yes? Who are you and why do you have my wife's phone?"
"Sir actually your wife and son had an accident a half an hour before. And they are taken to the nearest hospital by highway. Please reach as soon as possible, they seem to be in serious condition."

The grip on my phone loosened as I heard about the accident. This can't be happening. How is it possible? Suddenly I felt dizzy and was falling backwards until I felt a hand wrapped around my shoulder.
"Sir!! Sir, are you okay? What happened" Junho asked.
"M-my f-family. Th-they got in-into an acci-accident." I said as tears had blurred my visions.

"What? How?" Junho asked. I shake my head since I don't know anything about that. I just know that my family needs me. "Hos-hospital near highway. Let-lets go." I said as he nodded his head while helping me stand.

I was praying continuously the whole way to the hospital as my eyes were red from crying. When we reached the hospital and asked about the recently admitted patients from the accident, they told us that my wife was in ICU and Jimin was still unconscious and was in room no. 201. We headed towards the room and saw that the doctor was checking Jimin's condition.

I knocked on the door and the doctor signalled to come in when he saw us. Jimin had some bandages on his arms and nowhere else but he was still unconscious. I gently held his hands and kissed on it. I couldn't hold my tears anymore and they rolled down my face. I feel Junho rubbing my back and patting my shoulder to calm me down.

"Are you his father?" The doctor asked and I just nodded.
"Hello, I'm Dr Shen. I've examined his condition and he is fine. He doesn't have any serious injuries, just some scratches on his arms. And when he will wake up we just have to examine if he had any trauma or aftermath of this accident." Doctor informed us while checking the reports of Jimin.

"Doctor, how's my wife? Is she okay?" I asked hoping I'll get some positive response. But the doctor's face was telling that the answer to my questions would be negative.
"Mr Park, I'm sorry but we are trying our best to save her. Because of exclusive blood loss, her condition has gotten worse. We can just hope and pray for her." Dr Shen bowed, then left us in the room with Jimin.

I don't know what I would do if something happens to her. I can't lose her. We need her, our son needs her. She can't leave us. No, never. I was crying so much that I could not understand what to do in this situation.

"Sir, please take a hold of yourself, if you lose your courage then what will happen to your son? Just think about him, he is still a kid who needs you. When he regains consciousness, he will need his father when he comes to know in what condition his mother is." Junho said when he saw how badly I was crying and was in no condition to think.

I somehow managed myself and was waiting for the doctor to come when suddenly Jimin got up and shouted 'Mom' loudly.
"Jimin-ah are you ok? What happened? Is it hurting somewhere?" I asked him but saw tears welling up in his eyes and he hugged me and was crying in my embrace.
"Appa, where is Eomma? I want to meet her. We had an accident and Eomma was badly hurt. Is she ok?"

"Jimin-ah, she is fine for now, but if she does not survive, you will be strong for her, will you not?" When Jimin heard this, he understood the condition of his mother that she does not have much time. Jimin was not like other kids of his age, he is actually smart enough to understand the situations sometimes. So he just nodded his head and was crying badly.

After some time, the doctor told us what we didn't want to hear. He told us that he tried a lot but he could not save my wife's life.

Mr. Park's pov

I was standing in front of my wife's grave with Jimin and my tears could not stop. Mr Lee, a very good friend of mine, was taking care of Jimin while I was performing the funeral rituals.

At the time of burial, I made a promise to myself and my wife's soul that from this time onwards I will never let our son feel his mother's absence. I'll love him unconditionally and always support him in his every decision if he is right.

I promise you Sunmi-ah, I promise. I said in my mind while glancing upward towards the sky.
