Let's leave Wikipedia behind for now and focus on the story unfolding at this very moment, not the one from the past.
So, one month of training taught me a lot. I was starting to handle the sword with more skill and subdue the straw dummies with greater confidence. But the best part of all: I could finally pull the blade out after stabbing it into the dummies! I've never been happier in my life—not even when my mom won the Christmas hamper at my elementary school!
Well, one day, right in the middle of lunch, Jax's older brother, Draven (the man with very white hair who looked like he was still in his thirties and always sat at the far end of the table) arrived with terrible news: the Tatveccians had breached Nitel and were now entering the county of Dritton! There was no certainty about how long their defenses could hold off the enemy and keep them outside the walls, but it certainly wouldn't be for long.
Sophia, as Colonel—a rank only surpassed by the General—was in charge of the Flaming Angels Brigade, the royal guard. She advised her sister Evelyn to take a position that involved more drastic measures. They couldn't allow Tatvicc to continue advancing.
Jax said the Tatveccians were convinced they'd find Ara's Shield in Amluk, as only in this city could the highest level of security be ensured. However, they hadn't found the Shield in Nitel. It was still there, lost in a vault atop one of the tallest mountains of the cold province. Since no Tatveccian knew this irrelevant detail, they kept heading toward Amluk, destroying everything and everyone who opposed their passage.
In just four days, the city of Amluk's walls and those of the neighboring civilizations in this county (which, in case you haven't noticed, shares the name of both the city and the kingdom) doubled their defenses. Two squadrons were sent, the Serpent and the Tiger, each with three thousand men, to Dritton. These squadrons were led by the Rey brothers, two close and loyal friends of the D'Angellos, to help fight the Tatveccians. In those four days, they were also able to gather enough supplies so that, in case of a siege, the city could survive for three months.
As for me, I continued with my "little training," now rarely supervised by Sophia. She was too busy dealing with war preparations. Yes, war. That war everyone had predicted for a long time but was now about to erupt. I confess that I was starting to feel truly nervous, and with each passing day, each minute, and each second, I became more aware of the reality of an imminent battle.
Tatvicc is approaching, and at any moment, fueled by the rage of having their most prized possession stolen, they will come knocking at our door.
