TW - mention of feeling sick

{The Curtis Household}

Dawn.

Darry sat up in bed, swung his legs over the edge and held his head in his hands.

"Oh for heaven's sake." He muttered to himself.

He'd woken up to a familiar feeling, it was like a strange aura that radiated around him, a sign that he was about to get a migraine.

Darry had had his fair share.

Back in the day, during a football game Darry got tackled and in addition to smacking his head on the ground, a player on the opposing team stomped on it. That incident caused Darry to get a concussion, so naturally he experienced the odd headache during recovery but even after he was healed he continued to experience migraines now and then.

Apparently they were nothing serious, Mr and Mrs Curtis had taken him to doctors to make sure that it was nothing serious causing the migraines, but it turns out it was something that Darry would have to live with. So he had specific medication to take to help him cope.

He was doing just fine but since his parents passed it was a lot harder. The stress that their loss caused meant he experienced them quite a lot and although he always tried to suck it up to support his younger brothers he had to admit defeat most of the time.

At that moment, Darry was more disorientated as opposed to in pain but he knew from experience that it can change very quickly.

He had to get as much done as he could before he was out of commission.

He stood up and it felt as if he was hovering off the ground and the room began to tilt, Darry kept bumping into doorways until he finally made it to the bathroom. He sorted through the medicine cabinet and took his migraine tablet to try and get ahead of it.

What tended to make flare ups more bearable was if Darry felt fresh and clean, so he quickly rinsed off in the shower and brushed his teeth. That's when he began feeling increasingly dizzy and his vision started going wonky.

Darry's eyes were going in and out of focus, he couldn't read the labels on the medicine bottles, but he managed to find the painkillers and brought them with him.

Time was of the essence.

Luckily Sodapop was in the kitchen and he took one look at Darry and knew something was wrong.

"Another flare up?" Soda whispered, he had guessed seeing how Darry was stumbling about and from the pill bottle in his hand.

"Yeah." Darry winced, the morning light was shining through the windows which caused a searing pain to go straight to his head.

"Ah" The poor boy covered his eyes and leaned up against the counter.

Soda got up, worried Darry was gonna collapse, and wrapped an arm around his shoulder.

"You need to lie down." Soda insisted, guiding his brother back to his room.

"I? I need my-" His breathing hitched a bit as the pain washed over him, making it hard for him to find the right words and get them out.

"My stuff." Darry struggled.

Soda knew what he meant. He helped Darry get into bed and went around making sure all the blinds were pulled and there was not outside light peeping through.

"I'll go get it, sit tight." Soda whispered before heading back to the kitchen. He sorted through the freezer until he found Darry's eye mask, he brought it back to the room with a glass of water.
