Chapter 26: Misunderstood

Zixuan stood a few meters away from Jiang Yanli, he could hear her laugh and see her smile; See how happy she looked - but she was talking to Lan Xichen again. She always smiled so widely when talking to the Lan hier, he seemed to make her so much happier...

The boy bit his lip and clenched his fists unaware of his own feelings, he felt mad, and sad that Jiang Yanli was spending so much time with the Lan sect hier, but he couldn't quite grasp why.

Does she not respect our relationship? He questioned himself while watching how comfortable she was with the other man. In that moment, he wanted nothing more than to turn away from the scene and leave, the sight almost physically hurt him for reasons he couldn't quite fathom yet.

Yet instead he made his way up to them in spite of himself unaware of his own following actions. Jin Zixuan was almost running in autopilot mode as he made his steps there, "Maiden Jiang" he greeted ignoring Lan Xichen's presence competely. Despite noticing his rude aproach, the older hier signaled for Yanli to face the younger boy as he moved away ever-so-slightly.

Jiang Yanli bowed to him, but he didn't bow back, simply staring at her, he wasn't too sure what to do next. But Lan Xichen gave him a questionable look, almost like silently telling him to do something.

Wei Wuxian and Jiang Wanyin were still in the hall waiting for Yanli so they left together, when the saw the Jin aproach her, they immidiatly stopped what they were doing amd watched sternly the interaction from afar.

"Can I talk to you?" The teen asked seriously while facing the older girl.

Jiang Yanli seemed skeptical to accept his invite, her face was clear with hesitation as she looked back to where the Lan hier still stood. Lan Xichen was about to convince her to go with Jin Zixuan, but seeing how she turned to Xichen even though he spoke to her, Jin Zixuan grew angrier.

"I am speaking to you, why are you looking at him?!" He yelled these words out loud making most of the people still in the reaction room look at them - this included people from the future.

The patriarch and sect leader Jiang shared a look before looking at where Jin Ling stood; the boy had never known his parents, all he was told about them was good stories, but right now he would be seeing the truth of their relationship and the bumpy start of it.

Lan Xichen had originally intended on helping the two fix their relationship, but seeing the Jin hier's behaviour his smile stiffened, "That's no way to speak to a maiden" he warned with his signature smile, but it looked creepy in this setting.

Wei Wuxian and Jiang Wanyin were about to aproach the older boy after hearing him yell, but seeing Lan Xichen defend their sister, Wuxian held the younger back and they decided to watch how it would all escalate.

Hearing the Lan hier speaking seemed to only make Jin Zixuan angrier, "Do not interfere." The boy spoke dismissively before turning to Jiang Yanli who had subconsciously moved behind Lan Xichen's figure. "Maiden Jiang, may I speak to you?" He repeated humself, his words and tone sounded kind as he reached his hand out for her, but the girl had already raised her guard and refused to even look at him, looking down instead, making him take his hand back before clenching his fist.

Jin Zixuan looked down without saying anything, preceeding to bite his lip under his bangs. He didn't know why either, or what he would say, he just needed to speak to her. At this point everyone left in the room was watching them attentively, no one said a word.

"Is this what you choose?" Jin Zixuan spoke after a pause leaving both the people in front of him confused, sharing a slight look.

Lan Xichen was unmoving in front of Jiang Yanli, though his expression was amiable as always, the aura he exuded was definetly a hostile one. He looked back at the girl who wore a dark expression, "Yanli, if you-"
