The Texas heat shone outside the apartment window, and inside there was a cold chilly air breezing upon the couple from the AC, a scent of fresh coffee mixed with whiskey thanks to Schlatt, which made the place feel like home.
Boxes were stacked in the corner with some labelled neatly in Nora's handwriting, all her handwriting as after a few months, they were moving in together.
Nora flopped onto the couch, fanning herself with a piece of box that fell apart after Schlatt had dropped it. "Remind me again why we left LA?"
Schlatt now carrying two cups filled with the coffee (and a secret ingredient), handed one to her, and sat down. "Because someone wanted space from Ted and the internet and a backyard big enough for a dog."
"You mean you wanted those things," she said, smirking.
"Exactly," he replied. "And I wanted... well, you. So here we are."
She sipped her coffee, eyeing him over over the cup. "That was smooth."
"Years of practice."
It had been.. interesting, to say the least. Those first days at Ted's apartment in LA, two people who couldn't stand each other stuck in proximity. Schlatt's online fame throwing Nora under the judgement of millions, strangers turning their early outings into their own negative rumours. Somewhere, along the lines of judgement from Ted and literally what felt like the entire world, they figured each other out and helped one another.
And when Schlatt months later suggested they start fresh somewhere far from the noise of peoples opinions, she'd surprised herself by saying yes.
People on Twitter still tried their very best to ruin things, but it didn't work. With Ted's support and most of Schlatt's online friends, Nora finally felt at home. Well, that feeling mostly coming from TommyInnit, who threw a party for them on stream.. in England, but still, it was a nice gesture.
Schlatt leaned back against the sofa, stretching an arm behind her shoulders. "You know," he said, "this whole enemies-to-lovers-to-roommates thing? I think we kinda nailed it."
"Roommates?" she said with a mock glare. "You mean life partners?"
He grinned. "Eh, I wouldn't put it like that..."
She laughed, leaning into him. "Shut up asshole..."
"Wanna go for ice cream?" He smiled warmly, asking out of nowhere.
"Do you even have to ask?" She responded.
Outside, the sun was beaming, casting their living room in gold. They had a place they could finally call home, and for once, the rest of the world didn't matter.
They then found themselves at a small beach. Nora leaned back into a beach blanket, enjoying the Texas sun. Schlatt walked up beside her, holding two ice creams, one vanilla, and one chocolate.
"Still can't believe you're a basic person," she teased, taking hers.
"Uh rude," He said, grinning. "You love me, really."
She rolled her eyes, but there really was no hiding her smile. She really did.
Nora thought about the two's relationship and how he introduced her properly to his fans. Schlatt's latest vlog in Japan, where he'd introduced her.
"So while I have been filming in Japan with Jack, we may have picked up a little stray who hates being on camera.. she may also have fleas so bewar-"
"Fuck you.. says the cat person!" Nora teased slightly coming into frame.
"You know," she said, licking her spoon, "if someone had told me a few months ago that I'd be in love with the annoying YouTuber who hogged Ted's bathroom every morni—"
Schlatt interrupted, mockingly offended. "Excuse me, I was getting ready for the public eye."
"Yeah correction, you were doing your hair for forty minutes."
He smirked. "Still, you love it."
He set his ice cream down and wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close so her head rested on his shoulder. "Nora?"
"Yeah?"
"You know nothing else matters, right? Not the comments, not the people... none of it." His voice softened. "You're my home."
Her chest tightened, but in the best way. She smiled against him. "You're weird."
"Yep. And you're stuck with me." As he laughed, they smiled together, not even caring about the now melted ice cream from the sun. And that was important, because they did it together.
The waves rolled in on the soft sand as the sun dipped low, and back at Ted's apartment in LA, the city carried on without them there. For now, it was just the two of them, two former enemies who'd found something better than winning every argument, they found each other.
