Chapter 14

Anno: Before I became Pope, I sensed there was an Anno hidden deep within my soul. Born into a religious family, I became a bishop at the age of ten and sat on the throne of Pope for another hundred years. I always followed the teachings of my lineage, "An," and firmly held onto the responsibilities I was born into.

The dry literature was monotonous, and the exploration of consciousness nearly extinguished my passion.

While the interstellar populace gazed upon the Pope standing high above the city of Jerusalem, I had already been quietly shouldering this responsibility alone for a century.

When I was still in school, my religion teacher once asked us, "What is your dream?"

Almost all the students answered in unison, "To be the Pope and protect our faith."

But I never dreamed of being Pope. Back then, I yearned to be a knight, to own a time shuttle, and to explore the universe freely. When my father learned of this ambition, he punished me severely, locking me away for half a month.

My family's cold attitude toward me was surprisingly unanimous.

Since then, I never mentioned my dreams again.

My childhood self felt like a decayed monument, slowly buried beneath the weight of time and responsibility.

The true Anno had already fallen asleep.

---

The consciousness ignited by the stars awakened the true self within Anno's heart.

The first morning of physical training was complete.

With a two-hour break at noon, the afternoon would be spent studying religious history.

The iris projector beeped, signaling an alarm. Kane removed his iris and rolled his eyes, feeling nauseous.

Daniel, just taking off his iris projector, looked at Kane with a frown of disgust.

Kane wiped his mouth. "Why don't you throw up?"

Daniel shot back, "Why should I? I'm just going to reread what I already know."

Kane gave Daniel a thumbs up and then turned to Anno, who was watching a space exploration movie on the iris projector with a relaxed expression.

"Fuck! García, you're actually reading an interstellar travel guide!? I'm almost sick from reading religious history."

Anno sipped his tea leisurely, his gaze drifting from the projector as he replied, "I know all of it."

Kane almost retched again. "What? Are you that immodest?!"

Anno shook the cup in his hand, his expression calm and collected, before refocusing on the travel guide on the projector.

Originally, there were fifteen deputy staff vacancies, but after eliminations, only ten remained.

When Cadilla announced that the ten who passed would not face further elimination, a wave of relief swept through the room.

Although learning through the iris projector felt like cramming, it was significantly easier than the intense physical training.

Except for Anno, Daniel, and Gu Xiaobei, everyone else struggled to avoid vomiting after each hour of study.

The brain's ability to absorb information in a short period is limited. Almost everyone felt drowsy and famished. Finally, Cadilla waved his hand, sending over dozens of small doses of blood-melting agents. Those who truly couldn't bear it could apply for blood fusion, but no one could exceed three doses.
