Chapter 40

Anno: [During my time living in Lolita, 'no money' and 'how to make money' became questions I had to think about constantly. Because of this, when it came to Rufeite, I honestly didn't give much thought to the relationship between us.

The same goes for Liu Yian. After leaving the military, he had nothing and was even worse off than I was. He didn't have time to consider other matters because survival came first.

That's when I realized that higher-level needs-rights, responsibilities, beliefs, emotions, and love-only become relevant when your basic needs are met. It's not enough to fill your stomach; you also need extra money and spare time.

Liu Yian once put it succinctly. He said that if Kewei really wanted to reconcile, it wouldn't require anything complicated. A few million interstellar coins would have done the trick.

So, I'm thankful for my years on Blue Water Planet. They taught me that the obstacles between you and a loved one are all just material accessories. Without them, you're left with the basics. And if there's nothing material left, there's no real barrier-unless one of you is just pretending.]

Kewei's time shuttle stopped behind Lolita's church, and Rufeite's shuttle was parked right next to it. It was hard for Anno and Liu Yian to believe that the two of them hadn't arrived together.

Although Liu Yian often did odd jobs, they were all relatively easy tasks. While he and Anno lived together, Anno handled the outside affairs, and Liu Yian took care of the inside. Most of their household expenses were covered by Anno.

Now, as Liu Yian was wiping down the glass for Kewei, Anno could feel a chill emanating from him.

Liu Yian, his face cold, asked Kewei while holding a cloth, "How do you want it wiped, brother? From the beginning or the end? Up and down or left to right?."

Anno knelt on one knee, clasping his hands together, palms facing up. "Start from the top," he said, "I'll give you a boost."

Liu Yian, calm and composed, stepped onto Anno's hands and used his strength to climb onto the time shuttle.

Rufeite stood nearby with his arms folded, silent, while a faint trace of embarrassment appeared on Kewei's otherwise icy face.

After helping Liu Yian up, Anno walked over to Rufeite's ship.

The church's backyard was a rough patch of land where some old gardenias had been planted. Among the flowers, there was an iron buckle, and a long tube had been inserted into it in advance. Anno pulled the iron buckle open, aiming the other end of the tube like a water gun at Rufeite's shuttle.

Rufeite, Liu Yian, Kewei: "..."

Anno stood there in blue overalls, sleeves rolled up, basking in the sun with a certain vitality and energy. He whistled playfully as he sprayed water at Rufeite's time shuttle.

Liu Yian, feeling foolish, shouted something, but Anno pretended not to hear and went on snacking while casually washing the ship.

Rufeite's spaceship was an energy-efficient shuttle commonly used on the Golden Emperor. It was eco-friendly and highly functional, but a bit fragile. Now, under Anno's careless water blast, the alarm started blaring.

Rufeite pressed a hand to his forehead, trying not to laugh.

Kewei couldn't help but let a smile tug at the corners of his lips.

Anno, standing there washing spaceships, looked like a gardener tending to flowers. If he had a straw hat and was barefoot, the image would be complete.
