Chapter 20

Anno: "I want to know now, what extent has Rufeite done to my body?" Anno's nerves had become immune to Rufeite's improper words, and he was now waiting to see how far Rufeite could go.

Michael jumped directly into the atmosphere of Guangdi La. As soon as he passed through the interstellar gate, a voice came over the shortwave communication: "This is the United Nations mecha fleet. Please verify your identity."

Rufeite replied simply, "Rufeite."

The communication shortwave responded, "Hello, Master Tianjiao. The helipad is ready. Time to automatically connect to navigation?"

Rufeite confirmed, "Let's go."

Michael's communication route was set, and he automatically navigated to the United Nations helipad.

As Anno looked at the red soil and barren rocks of Guangdi La, he frowned. "It's still the same. This place is only suitable for Guangdi worms to survive. The United Nations and the Vatican have made a wrong assumption."

Rufeite replied, "Who knows? Maybe they have other intentions."

Anno turned to Rufeite. "What do they want?"

Rufeite smiled, leaning back slightly. "The United Nations is very dissatisfied with me. They describe me as the second Gu Chun and the religion as the second Holy See. I hold the ancient civilization mecha, and the power of religion is deeply rooted throughout the galaxy. Many believe that sooner or later, I will leave the United Nations."

Anno studied Rufeite quietly. "Will you?"

Rufeite shook his head. "No. I won't leave, no matter how hard the United Nations pressures me. My parents were loyal to the United Nations. Although I have no real feelings for them, the religion has always regarded itself as part of the United Nations. The Star People also have great respect for religion. When I took the position of the Celestial Church, I understood that Rufeite was no longer a rogue doing whatever he wanted without any limits."

Anno smiled, "Regret?"

Rufeite replied, "Well, no. Not as long as Anno is still here."

Michael landed on the tarmac, and when he opened the cabin door, Anno could see the red dust swirling above Guangdi La through a layer of biological membrane.

Soldiers in space suits lined up in a straight line, waiting for Rufeite to disembark. A non-commissioned officer saluted Anno through the biomembrane, and Anno smiled back.

The sergeant, wearing an astronaut cap, revealed only his handsome features. He raised his eyebrows at Anno and greeted him.

Anno and Rufeite donned their space suits and exited the cabin. The sergeant saluted again. "Hello, Tianjiao. Third-class sergeant Yuezhong from the mecha fleet reports to you."

Rufeite raised his arm, lightly pushing the soldiers back. "Thank you for your hard work, soldiers."

The soldiers responded with a unified salute.

The helipad was a temporary structure. Before, Guangdi La had been a wasteland with no mining projects and no inhabitants-only light worms lived there. Surrounding the helipad were many temporary metal buildings, looking particularly abrupt against the red backdrop.

Anno frowned. This was simply seeking death.

Yuezhong led Rufeite and Anno toward the building, saying as they walked, "The United Nations and the military have already exchanged information via shortwave communications. The room has also been arranged. Deputy General Kewei is at the front line and won't return until the evening. A meeting will be scheduled after dinner. After that..."
