Draco's POV:
"Wake up, sunshine," a voice spoke from somewhere in his dormitory. Draco didn't feel like he owed anybody a reaction, so he simply pulled the blanket over his head and mumbled something intelligible. It was immediately ripped off. "Bloody hell, it's freezing," he complained, curling up into a ball and hiding his face in his pillow. "Seriously, wake up now!" Whoever this was, they were truly testing their limits. He felt his pillow being ripped out from underneath him and suddenly a very loud voice in his ear, "DRACO LUCIUS MALFOY. GET UP RIGHT NOW OR I'M THROWING YOU TO THE GIANT SQUID FOR BAIT, YOU LAZY PIECE OF SHIT." Draco's eyes flew open in shock. Blaise was standing over his bed, holding his warm blanket and fluffy pillow in his arms. Draco groaned, "Merlin's beard, can you calm down? What are you waking me up for? Actually, I don't even care just give me back my blanket." He tried to rip it out of his arms but Blaise took a few steps back, looking unusually smug. "Fine, guess I'll tell Potter to leave then." If there was anything that could have gotten Draco out of bed in that moment, it was definitely this. Harry Potter waiting for him? Blaise was mad for not telling him to begin with. He jumped out of bed, pulling on some clean clothes. "Dammit, you could have just said that!" He shot Blaise a look before quickly trying to fix his hair in the mirror. Of course today was the day where he looked an absolute mess, how typical. Blaise placed his bedding back down and watched Draco in amusement. "Didn't think it was this important to you, clearly I was wrong. Care to explain?" He chuckled while Draco struggled to fit all his things in his bag. He slung it over his shoulder and turned to leave. "I'm not talking to you anymore."
When he left the common room (trying to look calm and collected and not in the middle of a panic), Harry was already waiting for him outside. "Draco," a shiver went down his spine as he heard Harry use his first name. That would still need some getting used to. "Breakfast?" He hadn't expected him to come all this way, just to ask if they wanted to eat together. His cheeks grew a little warm. "That'd be nice." They made their way over to the Great hall, making small talk and planning their next tutoring session. When they entered, there was nobody else there. Was it really so early? Harry pointed over at the Gryffindor table. "Sit with me." But Draco stopped. It hadn't been hard for him to get over his nastiness towards Harry, it had mostly just been prejudice planted in his head by his father, after all. But for him to sit at the Gryffindor table? In his clearly green robes, with his clearly bleach blonde hair, for anybody to see? His pride rose again. "I am not sitting there," He shook his head at Harry, expecting him to relent and let Draco sit at the Slytherin table, like he was supposed to. Instead he was met with a look of amusement. "Why, are you scared?" He sure knew how to push his buttons. He pushed past Harry, mumbling something like 'Damn you, Potter' under his breath and sat down at the Gryffindor table.
Harry's POV:
He hadn't actually expected that very obvious tactic to work, but he couldn't help laughing when Draco fell for it. They ate mostly in silence, but the other boy kept shooting anxious glances at the door, as if he would jump up as soon as anybody else entered. He was in luck, though. As they finished, they were still the only two people there. While walking back to the common rooms, he finally built up the courage to ask what had been on his mind the entire time. "Actually, I've been meaning to ask if you want to come to Hogsmeade with me and Ron and Hermione today." He internally cringed. That question had been so not smooth. Draco didn't answer immediately and it made Harry nervous. He was about to add that he didn't have to when he finally got a reply, "Will they be okay with it?" He hadn't expected to hear such worry from him. Still, Draco had a point. He hadn't asked Ron and Hermione if they were alright with it yet, he figured they wouldn't send him away if he just brought him along, though. "Sure they are. Just meet me outside in two hours and we'll meet them some place. We agreed to do some Christmas shopping first, and I told them to stay away because I'm buying their presents." This seemed to calm him down a bit. They stopped in front of the dungeons to part ways. "Fine, if you say so. I'll see you in a bit then."
They met up two hours later and made their way over to Hogsmeade. Luckily, he had purposefully given Draco an earlier time to meet, so they could avoid Ron and Hermione for a little while. They browsed some shops, Harry was quick to find a gift for most of his friends but Draco was a little tricky. Firstly, he didn't even know if they were at the stage where they should get a gift for one another, but Harry decided he would do it regardless. Secondly, he had no idea what to get him. Draco seemed like the type of person who already had whatever he wanted and his family was wealthy either way. It had to be something special.Draco's POV:
Funnily enough, Draco didn't exactly have any friends with whom he exchanged Christmas gifts. Crabbe and Goyle forgot every year, and Draco didn't want to be the only one giving them something. Blaise already had everything one could possibly wish for, every past attempt of getting him something had been something he already owned. Pansy was the only one where it made sense, so he decided to get her something small that he knew she would enjoy. Harry, on the other hand, was a lot harder to shop for. It had to be something special, something that sent the message 'I want to be more than friends' but in a subtle and not too desperate way. It had to be something special, something rare. Something... like a broom care kit. No, he probably already had one of those. But then he had an idea.
After they had bought everything they needed, they exited the shops and made their way to The Three Broomsticks to meet Ron and Hermione. They turned a corner and were greeted by a bright flash. "Hiya Harry," The little Colin Creevey spoke, and lifted his camera to take another picture. "Hi Colin," Harry was visibly embarrassed. "I think that's enough pictures." Thankfully the smaller boy lowered his camera again. Draco wasn't even sure if he'd noticed he was there, he seemed to only be interested in talking to Harry, but this didn't bother him in the slightest. He'd much rather have that than awkward questions. "So, Harry, I was wondering if you could teach me some stuff in Defence against the Dark Arts. You're really good and I might fail..." Colin started on a tangent. Harry tried his hardest to listen and Draco tried even harder not to laugh until Colin finally left the two of them alone. Draco immediately cracked. "So that's what it's like to be the famous Harry Potter?" He held his stomach. It almost sounded like his old tendency to make fun of Harry were coming out again, but this time they weren't coming from a malicious place. Harry, on the other hand, looked dumbfounded. When Draco finally regained his composure, he gave him a questioning look. "What?" But Harry just turned away to enter the inn. "Nothing. I've just never seen you laugh like that before."
Before Harry and Draco entered The Three Broomsticks, Hermione and Ron had already been sitting inside. Harry had never told them that he was bringing Draco along, but they saw them from the window while they were still talking to Colin. Ron almost looked bitter, "About Malfoy..." He turned to give Hermione a look. "What about him?" Hermione was still looking at them outside while Harry was struggling to get rid of Colin. "Don't you think it's a bit strange that they're spending so much time together now? I could count the times we've talked to Malfoy the past six years on two hands, and all of them made me feel sick. I don't trust him." If looks could kill, Draco probably wouldn't be trying to hold in his laugh anymore. Hermione wanted to disagree, but Ron had a point. Of all people Draco had probably hurt her the most. "I don't know, Ronald." Ron sighed. "I think Harry likes him." Hermione only looked confused. "Of course he does if they're friends." He side-eyed her. Unsure whether he should speak his mind or not, he chose his words carefully. "No, I mean I think he likes him a lot." Outside, Colin had just turned to leave and Draco burst into fits of laughter. Hermione turned her head quickly. "Ron. You're not saying he's..." Ron just nodded. The door to the inn creaked open as Harry and Draco entered, and Hermione quickly tried to stop Ron from saying anything else absurd.
