Silver's POV
"There they are!"
Wini and I were running through the hallways of the manor, swinging our torches around as we went. We knew it wouldn't have been long before someone noticed the smoke and fire. As the employees of the manor rush to get water and put out the fire, some of them noticed us and immidiately gave chase.
"You brats! Why would you do this?!"
They were just maids, but they were still adults. So, even if we did fight them, we might not win. Besides, Saphira said that we need to avoid a direct confrontation with anyone.
Before we started with our plan, Saphira and I left the shed in the woods and snuck back into the manor to go find Wini. She was just about to go to bed after doing homework when we burst into the room, startling her and the other kids. After explaining everything, which her tired brain didn't comprehend at first, she agreed to help the second we mentioned setting the manor on fire.
We went from room to room, and warned all the kids about what was going to happen. Some of the kids trusted our words and immidiately went to the kitchen were we told them to wait by the door that leads to the backyard. The kids that didn't believe us ignored our words and either went to bed or back to what they were doing before. Saphira told us to set everything on fire except for the area where the rooms are and the path that leads to the kitchen. So that when we start the fire, the kids that stayed behind would have a cleared path to safety.
That left the front of the manor as our main target. We didn't want to accidently let the fire spread to the back of the manor where the entrance to the basement is and where the kid's rooms are. When we finished warning everyone, we went to set our plan in motion. Our first stop was the kitchen where our needed supplies would be. There, the kids watch us with wary eyes as we rummage through cupboards to find what we were looking for.
We needed water, oil and matches. Torches are easy to find in the manor, as they are placed as decoration on walls in every room. Saphira took the heavy bucket of water and wetten the floors where we didn't want the fire to spread. Next, Wini and I took the large jar of oil and made a line through the manor. We made sure that the oil touched every furniture that was flammable.
Then, Wini and I took the torches and lit them with the matches. We walked along our oil lines and made sure we set everything on fire. Saphira was tasked with getting Charlie. So, the second panic screams and shouts echoed down the halls, we took that as our sign to leave. The shouts should reach the gaurd at the basement door, and hopefully, he will leave his post to go find out what the commotion was about.
That would give Saphira time to grab the keys and unlock the door, and hopefully she would be able to help all the kids in the basement before someone figures out what is going on.
'I hope she was able to help everyone.' My lungs were burning from my running and the smoke I was inhaling. I pause in my steps when Wini ripped her hand our of mine. "What are you doing?" I watch as Wini openend windows in the hall before she came back and took my hand again. "Adding more feul to the fire." She smiled proudly at me as she tugs at my hand and leads the way down the hall.
'I don't know if I should be proud or worried...' Wini is a strange but genius child. She's only nine. Her behavior is worrisome. I can't really blame her though. With how we grew up and with the virus in our veins, no one would consider us normal. I should be glad she can handle any situation, but I also wished that she could have had a normal childhood. What a shame how our lifes turned out.
"There's the stairs!" Wini pointed to a set of stairs that led down to the kitchen. My heart was racing painfully in my chest as we took the stairs down two at a time. My thoughts were already filled with dark things as I worry that by the time we reach the kitchen, that Saphira and Charlie won't be there. At the landing of the stairs was another hall that stretched far. The lights on the wall flicker as we rush passed to get to the door that belongs to the kitchen.
