Silver's POV
I groan as my body starts to wake up. I might have just gotten a few hours sleep in. I sit up slowly so I don't wake Winifred or Saphira that are sleeping next to me. I let out a big yawn and rub the sleep out of my eyes. I look around the cramped area where everyone, except the granny and Charlie, are sleeping. 'Seems like I woke up first'. I cover my mouth to silence another big yawn.
'My brains awake, so I won't be falling asleep again even if I tried.' I was thirsty. My dry tongue try to build up moisture, but my mouth feels like a dessert. I want to get up and head to the kitchen, but I was scared of waking up my sisters. 'What to do? I'm really thirsty...' I survey the room as I try to think of ways to get up without waking anyone.
The four boys, who I now know as Mikey, Donny, Leo and Ralph, are opposites in many ways. I became aware of this early on when we first met. I liked trying to read a person, but I'm not really good at it. Yet. Like how I made the mistake of thinking those group of kids that robbed us were just bluffing with their threats. 'I won't make such a mistake again.' I need to read more on how to read a persons true intentions.
From what I could tell, Mikey is energetic and talkative. Leo seems like the unwilling leader, he acts like the role was pushed onto him, but he takes his role seriously. Ralph is the hot-headed and aggressive type with a big ego. Donny is someone I'm not sure of. He's quiet, but I could see he has a fierce attitude. 'I wonder when he'll show that side of him.' I was so lost in thought that I didn't notice that Angie was awake.
She gave me a sleepy smile as she got up. "Do you need help?" She whispered the question as she gestures to the two sleeping next to me. I nod my head, my throat is too dry to try and talk. She came over to my side and, as gently as possible, moved Winifred closer to Saphira without waking her up. I push the blanket to cover the both of them as I got up and followed Angie down the ladder. In the small kitchen, Angie washed us two clay cups and filled it with water.
She sat down next to me as we both greedily dranked the water. She sighed as she put her cup down, "Why are you up so early?" I put my cup down too after I've drank every drop. 'I want some more.' "I was always an early riser. Once my brain is awake, it's impossible to fall asleep again." I stared at the cup in my hands and notice the chips and cracks. "Then you and I are the same. I also have a hard time falling back asleep once I'm awake." She smiles at me.
I frown at her words. 'Are we the same? If one have a commen trait to others, doesn't make them the same, right?' In my silence, Angie took my cup and hers and filled it up with water again. "Don't tell anyone we took seconds." She winked at me as she places the cup in front of me. My frown deepens, "Why? Isn't there enough water for everyone?" Angie sipped on her water as she thought on how to answer me.
"Fresh water is hard to find. When it rains, we try to gather as much as we can and have to ration it to make it last before the next rainy season." I push my cup away from me. "Then why be greedy when you know there isn't enough to go around?" She seems shocked at my words. "There is enough, so don't worry. The rainy season is just around the corner." Even with those reasuring words, I didn't feel like drinking more.
"And with the rainy season, comes more diseases." Angie and I both jumped at Granny Lilo's voice. She walked so silently that we didn't hear her enter the room. "How's Charlie?" Angie frowned at my rudeness, "Say goodmorning first. Goodmorning, Granny Lilo." She gave the old lady a beaming smile. The old lady returned her greeting, "Charlie is doing fine, I'm here to bring him some water." She took Angie's empty cup and filled it with water, "Angie dear, I'm sorry to ask this of you, but would you mind making breakfast for today?"
