When the world needs them, heroes will rise to the challenge, protect the innocent, and punish the guilty. But who are those heroes before they rise to that level? What were their lives like before they became part of The Age of Heroes?
Earth, 2007.
In a house in a suburban neighborhood, a lady was preparing breakfast for her family. Her husband was in the living room watching the news, and their five year old son was playing with some of his toy trains on the living room floor.
Suddenly, three loud knocks were heard on the front door of the house. The lady paused and walked up to the front door.
When she opened the front door, there was no one there.
"Hello?" Asked the lady.
Suddenly, the lady heard the soft sound of a baby near the ground. The lady looked down and saw a basket with a small newborn baby girl wrapped in a pink blanket. The baby girl had extremely pale, almost white skin and was wearing a golden necklace with a red gemstone in it.
"A baby?" Said the lady.
The lady picked the whole basket and looked around. The lady couldn't spot anyone around, so she brought the baby inside.
"Donald! Can you come into the nook?" Said the lady.
The lady's husband stood up and thumped into the nook. Once he saw the baby, he just stared for a moment.
"Someone just left this poor baby on our doorstep." Said the lady.
Donald walked up to look at the baby.
"Was there a note? Anything?" Asked Donald.
"Nothing." Said the lady.
The lady took the necklace off the baby, which seemed to wake her up. The baby looked around with her purple eyes and started to cry. Donald picked the baby girl up and held her while she was still wrapped in her pink blanket.
"Shh. Calm down. It's okay. We'll figure out how to help you." Said Donald.
The lady looked over the necklace and turned it to the backside. On the back, one word was engraved. Raven.
"It says Raven. Maybe her name?" Said the lady.
"Maybe." Said Donald.
Once the baby was calmed down, Donald put her back in the basket.
"What are we supposed to do in this situation?" Asked the lady.
"I could call the authorities. Tell them we have an unidentified baby left on our doorstep." Said Donald.
While they were talking, their son walked into the room. The boy had heard the baby crying and came to see. He could see the baby girl was about to cry again. The boy walked up and looked at the baby, and the baby girl looked back at him and seemed to calm down a little.
"Hi." Whispered the boy.
The baby girl looked at him a bit more. The boy sat down at the nook table and picked up the baby. He held her in his arms and rocked her. The baby girl calmed and started to drift off into sleep. The boy glanced at his parents and asked a question.
"Mumma, Da, what's her name?" Asked the boy.
The boy's parents finally noticed that their son had walked into the room. They were a little surprised to see him holding the baby with such care, and the baby girl sleeping in his arms.
"Oh, we don't know if she has a name." Said Mumma.
"Well, her necklace said Raven. Like you said, that could be her name." Said Da.
"Raven." Said the boy.
The boy looked down at the baby girl.
"I like you, Raven." Said the boy.
"You fine holding her, Teddy?" Asked Mumma.
"Yes. She's cute." Said Teddy.
Mumma and Da looked at each other.
"Maybe we don't have to be so hasty with finding a home for her." Said Mumma.
"Finding a home? Soph, I think she has a home." Said Da.
"Are you suggesting we adopt her?" Asked Mumma.
They both seemed to consider the idea.
"Maybe we can. That would be a big shift in our lives." Said Mumma.
"Yeah, but the girl needs a home. And just look at them." Said Da.
They both looked at their son holding the baby.
"Something tells me they'll have a strong connection." Said Da.
"Yes, they seem to. I'm open to it." Said Mumma.
"I'll see what I can do to adopt a baby with no information, but I'll make it work." Said Da.
"You always find a way to make it work." Said Mumma.
Mumma and Da stood together as they looked at the two children. Somehow they knew this baby girl was now their daughter, and that she would have a strong bond with their son.
Somehow they knew the world would know the brother-sister duo of Teddy and Raven.
