TW: alcohol, arguing, drunk Gerard, vomiting (mentioned), suicide (mentioned if you squint), emotional distress
YOUR POV:
The smell of alcohol filled my senses and you'd think it wouldn't bother me, but something about being surrounded by older men who were all shit faced was highly uncomfortable. And if it wasn't bad enough, I was the only female within the entirety of the bar and all eyes were on me from the drunkards.
It wouldn't be so bad if I was drunk along with them, but I was completely sober and it felt like they were all waiting and watching me...waiting to take a bite out of me.
Gerard and his band, My Chemical Romance, just released their newest album—Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, and in order to celebrate, they all agreed to go out and get drinks.
Gerard invited me along since it would 'shut me up about spending time with him.' It bothered me, but I didn't let him have the satisfaction of seeing me annoyed at his words. His bandmates were happy that I tagged along, mostly because they knew that I wouldn't be drinking and they could get shitfaced without a care in the world.
Basically, I was stuck on babysitting duty.
I've been around drunk Gerard plenty of times, and there were three stages to his drinking. I liked to call it 'The Phases of Way.' Sure, he didn't always follow these 'phases,' but his track record was pretty good.
When he was beginning to get drunk, he'd turn into a giggly and touchy bastard, and that's when you knew that you had entered phase one. When this happens, everything was funny to him and he became really touchy toward the nearest person. Tonight, I was subjected to his touches.
"I love you," Gerard lovingly said to me. "I love you, I love you, I love you," Gerard droned on.
I smiled, "and I love you."
Gerard childishly smiled and giggled which only caused my smile to widen. God his smile and giggles always make me so incredibly happy.
He leans into me as I brace myself to catch him in case he decided to take a tumble, but thankfully he didn't. He sloppily placed a wet kiss on my cheek before he pulled away and giggled again. He grabbed his drink and drank some more as I watched him.
I wasn't sure where the others were, and honestly their safety didn't concern me. Yeah, of course I would worry, but they weren't active alcoholics, so they were on the back burner.
A few drinks later and Gerard was flagging down the bartender for more drinks.
"Gerard, you've already had enough," I say to him.
Gerard lowers his hand as the bartender nods. He glances at me, "I have enough when I say I've had enough." Gerard sasses, "besides, I'm having fun and I just released a new album."
The bartender walks over and begins to fill up Gerard's glass with vodka. Gerard lets out a small 'thank you' as the bartender walks off to attend to a new customer.
He reaches for the glass but I quickly pull it away from him.
Gerard whines in protest, "let me have my drink!"
I shake my head, "no. I've let you have your celebration time."
Gerard scoffs, "I'm just having fun. Why don't you hop off my dick for once?"
"I'm not even on it—."
"Yes, you are." Gerard huffs, "you won't let me have my god damn drink."
I sigh, "the others are somewhere getting drunk too but while they do that, I need to make sure that you don't drink too much."
"That's hypocritical," Gerard huffs as he crosses his arms. "You'll let the others get drunk, but not me? I'm a grown ass man and I'm 27 years old. You don't have to coddle me. You're my girlfriend," Gerard reminds. "You're not my mother, so stop acting like it."
He wasn't fully wrong. I was being hypocritical and treating Gerard differently than his bandmates. They were just at as much risk of losing control as he was, but I also had enough faith in them that they knew their limits.
Gerard didn't know his limits, and he would just keep drinking until he passed out or was throwing up.
Gerard spoke up which broke me from my trance. "Don't give me that look, and don't put me on a god damn guilt trip."
I glanced over at the glass of vodka before sliding it over to him. "I'm sorry, you're right. You deserve to get drunk."
Gerard happily smiles and takes the glass from me. "Damn right I do. I busted my ass on this album." He raises the glass up to his lips, "this is the one time you can't say anything because I earned this."
"Yo, Gee," we hear behind us to see Frank walking toward us. It was clear he was a bit drunk but he wasn't anywhere near as drunk as Gerard. "You should calm down."
Gerard rolls his eyes and lowers the glass, "now you're going to join in, hm? Fan-fucking-tastic."
"Now you're just bitching," Frank scoffs.
"So, my best friend is taking my girlfriend's side?" Gerard asks.
Frank puts his hands up in a surrender, "I'm not on anyone's side, feel free to count me out."
"Gerard, we're just worried—," I try and say.
"God, all you do is nag," Gerard complains.
"We just don't want you to over indulge—," I try and explain.
"Do I have to explain it to you all the god damn time?!" Gerard yells.
And thus we've entered phase two of 'The Phases of Way.' Phase two was always double sided and never guaranteed. Sometimes he would enter phase two and just be depressed, and go on about how he wanted to die and whatnot. But on the other end of the spectrum, Gerard could get extremely argumentative and the smallest little things would set him off.
Mikey and Ray seemed to have overheard the yelling as they both strode over. They were clearly drunk as well, and they were definitely a bit more intoxicated than Frank.
"Jesus, Gerard," Ray begins. "Stop being such a dick to Y/N. She's just worried about you."
Gerard scoffs and drinks more of his vodka. "I'm not an alcoholic."
I roll my eyes and look away, "that's what an alcoholic says."
"My own girlfriend is calling me an alcoholic," Gerard begins. "That's in-fucking-credible!"
Frank speaks up, "she doesn't mean it to be mean."
Gerard slams his glass down onto the bar top, I'm a bit surprised that it didn't crack or bust. He turns and glares at Frank, "how is what I'm doing a crime?"
"Can't you just listen for one god damn minute?!" Frank argues, his patience clearly wearing thin.
"Fine," I huff as I hop off the barstool. "I'm going to go and wait in the car."
"Oh because that's real mature," Gerard sarcastically says. "Stop being dramatic all the god damn time!"
I ignored him and walked out of the bar and into the cool New Jersey night. I shivered at the breeze as I made my way toward my car. Even though it was early June, it was still somehow cool at night.
I reached into my bag and pulled out my car keys. I unlocked the car and crawled into the drivers seat as I tossed my things into the back.
I sat there staring at the building in silence before I began to slam my hands on the steering wheel and scream out in frustration.
I did that for a while until my hands ached and my voice was coarse. I sat there crying for a while until I reached into the backseat, and grabbed hold of one of Gerard's hoodies that had been in my car for a while.
I moved my seat back and threw it on before laying back and staring at the car's ceiling, and before I knew it...I was drifting off to sleep.
