A/N: thx for 100+ reads uh kinda surprised anyone is even reading this lol anyway soft chapter before crack chapter

YOUR POV:

I was woken up by the stench of alcohol and someone shaking me awake. "Y/N...wake up."

My eyes fluttered open as I was hit with the smell of Gerard's hoodie. I forgot that I was wearing it, and the smell of stale cigarettes was honestly quite pleasant.

"Gee?" I softly asked.

Gerard nods, his face dark from the lack of streetlights, but I was still able to make him out. "Mhm, can we go home?" He slurred.

I hummed in agreement and rubbed my eyes like a child who had been woken up by their parent(s). Gerard reaches over and moves some hair out of my face as I hum in contentment. He then pulls away as I shift and fix my seat before buckling up, as Gerard drunkenly follows.

I pull out of the parking lot and we begin our trek home. He stunk of alcohol but I didn't care to roll down the window. The car ride home was uncomfortably silent and I could feel Gerard's eyes on me as I drove.

Gerard softly spoke up, "are you mad at me?"

I kept my eyes on the road, "just frustrated."

"I'm sorry for being a dick."

I didn't reply.

"I didn't mean to make you cry," Gerard adds, probably noticing the dry tear streaks on my face.

"It's fine," I firmly reply. "They were just frustration tears."

"I-I know that I've been an ass recently," Gerard says as he fidgets with the sleeve of his dark red hoodie. "I know you guys just want to help..."

He takes a breath before continuing, "I'm sorry for how I acted at the bar...and for everything. I was just so pissed that you were all getting on my case about not stopping. I just wanted to get shitfaced without a care in the world...and I took my anger out on you and the guys."

His voice suddenly became quiet and soft, "the truth...is that I'm a coward."

My eyes widened at his confession as he continued. "The truth is that I don't want to face my problems. I just want to be numb and feel nothing."

This was where phase three of 'The Phases of Way' came in. Phase three was sober thoughts and words...usually it was the only time he would open up and confess his feelings. He was basically telling on himself, except he wouldn't remember in the morning.

Gerard takes a shaky breath, "a-and I hate myself for it...but I can't stop what I've started. I try...but I always go back and it makes me hate myself even more."

I pulled the car over to the side of the road and placed it in park. Gerard looks at me in confusion as I unbuckle my seatbelt. "Y/N..?"

I shift my body to face him as I speak up, "this is the first time you've ever really told me about how you feel."

Gerard nods, "y-yeah...I guess you're right."

I lifted my body up a bit and leaned toward him, mindful of the center console that separated the two of us. Gerard's eyes widened as I embraced him in a hug. His body tensed for a moment before loosening up and returning the hug. He buried his face in my hair as I heard him take in a breath.

We stayed hugging in my car in pure silence until I pulled away and settled back into my seat.

"I know you won't remember any of this in the morning," I sadly smile. "But it means a lot to me."
