I search for fragments of you
In every face
In every smile
I trace the curve of your grace
Eyes that glimmer
Hands that hold tight
I look for your warmth
In the cold of the night
Every laugh echoes your gentle sound
In every embrace
I hope to be found.
But their touch feels empty
Their words fall flat,
No one is you
And I can't change that
I seek your gaze
In a stranger's stare
Hoping to find the comfort
You once shared
But the truth lingers
Bitter yet clear
No one else can bring you near
I look for a bit of you
In every guy I meet
But it's like chasing shadows
So incomplete
For you're a ghost that lingers
Won't set me free
And I realize now
The piece missing is me.

Every new encounter felt like a quiet search
A scavenger hunt with no end in sight
I'd catch a smile across a crowded room
And for a moment it was almost like seeing you again
That familiar spark would flicker
So briefly, so brightly
Just enough to make my heart skip
I'd lean in, hoping, aching for the warmth
You once carried in your laugh in your touch
But it would fade, like a candle blown out
And the cold would settle back in
Every date was the same
I'd listen, waiting for that one word
That one tone in their voice
That would bring you back to me
Even if just for a moment
Sometimes, I almost believed I'd found it
A cadence in their laughter, a tilt in their smile
But it would slip away
Like a dream I couldn't quite remember
When I woke up
I'd be left with an emptiness
A hollow ache, and the realization
That I was still searching for you
In every person that I meet
I would study their eyes
Desperate to catch a glimpse of you
Something that would remind me
Of the way you used to look at me
As if I was the only person in the world
But no gaze had your light
And no lips could shape my name the way you did
Soft and sincere, as if it was meant just for me
So I kept collecting fragments
Pieces of strangers who reminded me of you
A laugh here, a glance there
The way they brushed a stray strand of hair
From my face, just as you used to do
I tried to fit them together
Like a puzzle I was determined to solve
But the pieces never quite matched
They were jagged, ill-fitting
Leaving gaps that felt bigger with each attempt
I wanted to believe I could recreate you
From these remnants, that if I looked hard enough
Searched long enough, I could stitch together
A version of you from someone else's fate
But every time, it was almost, but not quite
Close, but always just shy of the memory
That haunted me
The more I tried, the more I realized
That I wasn't chasing you anymore
I was chasing an echo, a shadow of the love I had lost
And shadows, no matter how hard you run after them
Always slip away when you get close.
