Chapter 27

Linda:

We had all gone inside.

"You guys hungry?"

"Yeah."

I figured I would order Chinese food since the kids were here and I had Stef here also and just in case Ryan has a few more of his friends over. I decided to order 3 of everything and the biggest size. They told me it would take 45 minutes for it to be ready. After it was ready I took Stef and Callie with me and told Ryan to stay just in case anybody shows up.

30 minutes later we came back with the food and put everything on the counter. I got plates out and we sat down to eat.

"So when you get out?"

"I'm not out. They just granted me a day release I have to go back early tomorrow morning."

"Well I'm glad you were able to see me graduate."

"Of course baby."

There was a knock at the door so I got up and got it.

"Hello."

"Is Ryan here? He told us he was gonna be here."

"Yeah. We were just eating. Come on in."

"Thank You."

"Ry? Your friends are here."

He comes out to where we were and they follow him into the kitchen. I go back into the kitchen and sit back down. I offered his friends some food. They ate then Ryan and his friends left. Callie stayed since she wanted to spend time with her mom before I had to take Stef back in the morning. They went into the living room while I cleaned the kitchen up a bit. I put away all the unopened food and left the open ones out just in case anyone wanted seconds.

It was 9 at night and there was a knock on the door so I got it.

"Vera!"

"I know you are busy and have your hands full, but do you have a minute?"

"Yeah come on in. Are you Hungry?"

"I don't want you to cook."

"I ordered Chinese earlier and there's plenty."

"Okay."

I took Vera to the Kitchen and made her a plate.

"What's going on?"

"I'm sorry that Derek was there when I gave the information yesterday."

"It's okay."

"When he saw she had put your name down he thought something was going on between the 2 of you and I reassured him that there wasn't anything going on."

"There's nothing going on. I asked her why and she said because she didn't know who else to put down besides her daughter."

"Okay. I understand."

"I made a promise to her daughter that I would look after her mum for her, that's all. I promise."

"Okay."

"I'll take that."

"Thanks. I should get going."

"You don't have to go."

"You sure?"

I stroke her cheek.

"Yeah I'm sure."

She smiles at me and I kiss her gently and she kisses me back. So we kissed for a bit.

"You okay?"

"Yeah."

"Okay. Listen, I want you to stay but I need to get to bed soon since I have to get up around 3:30."

"I could stay the night and we could ride in together."

"Okay."

We go into the living room

"Stef. It's getting late and we have to get up bloody early so I think we all should head to bed."

"Okay."

I helped Stef and Callie get settled then me and Vera went into my room to get ready for bed.
