"If I had enough money I would've gotten it" Tee mumbles, swinging the shopping bags in her hands, referring to the extremely expensive dress we had spotted.

I scoff. "You'd have to take out a loan to pay for a dress like that" Carmen and Tee giggle at my joke. "Thanks for this guys. I love going shopping but it can be a bit difficult with Elle. Helps to have someone with me"

Carmen grins at me, rounding the buggy and tickling Elle's cheek. "No need to thank us, anything to spend time with this adorable girl.

As we approach the front door, an unfamiliar woman - who is clearly waiting for someone - approaches us. She has a sympathetic look on her face as she hands a letter to Tee, patting my shoulder in sympathy.

Tee takes it from her, confusion etched into her features. "What's this?" We ask in unison, she simply gives us that same look before walking away.

"What on earth?" I whisper as Tee gently opens the envelope. As far as envelopes go , it's pretty fucking gorgeous. It's got pink butterflies across the inside and the paper matches it perfectly.

It's apparent that this letter is very much personal.

I watch - with bated breath - as Tee unfolds the letter revealing a page full of cursive writing. Handwriting that haven't seen in years but would recognise anywhere. I don't even need her to say it for me to understand who this letter is from. Still, her next words confirm my suspicions, sending a pained sting through my heart.

"It's from mum" She hands me the paper to read over once she's finished reading.

Dear Johnny and Tee,

I know that you will be shocked to hear from me after all this time. I am so very sorry that I haven't been in touch. I know that I have let you down and that is why I haven't written to you before now. I have never been good at writing, as you know, and so I think the best thing that I can do is beg for you to come and meet me so that we can talk face to face.

You will be wondering why I didn't arrange a meeting through your social worker. You see, I have left Keith. He doesn't know where I am and I don't want him to. I'm staying at a refuge just out of town. I'm very discrete, so I'm sure Keith won't find me here. If you would like to see me, please call my number.
