Ever since Jesse got arrested I've tried to pretend I never knew him. I've spent more time with Tee and Johnny to fill all the time I spent with Jesse but even that wasn't enough. So, i decided to start practicing an old hobby of mine.
When Tee was really little she would find it really difficult to fall asleep. Nothing me or Johnny said or did helped to convince her she was safe. Even after mum and her boyfriend had gone out, she still didn't feel safe.
The only thing that reassured her was my singing. I sang for her and Johnny for years and I got really good at it.
But, after we got put in care, I stopped. It was too painful to think about my past. I figured since Jesse is gone now, I might as well fill that time I used to spend with him.
I was in the lounge singing, maybe a bit too loudly, when Liam rushed in.
"Shut up for a sec Kyle" He says simply, running back out the room.
"Rude much" I mumble before finding myself curious as to where he went. I hear voices coming from the office and find Toby, Johnny, Liam and Frank surrounding the office phone.
An automated voice on the phone speaks. "You are one step away from your dream holiday" I furrow my eyebrows in confusion and lay my hand on Johnny's shoulder, causing him to jump.
"What's going on?" I whisper. Just as I speak we hear the front door open.
"Go, go" Liam says in a hushed voice and we all run out the back door of the office.
We rush into the toy cupboard and find ourselves cramped together. Meaning my arm is pressed flat against Liam's. We both wince at the sudden closeness as the woman on the phone continues to speak.
"What reptile has been found in the Florida keys for over 200 million years?" She asks.
The boys rush out hushed (and stupid) suggestions.
"Dinosaur" Liam says.
"Squirrel!" Johnny suggests.
"Dodo bird?" Frank says unsurely.
"You lot are all thick, those aren't even reptiles" I sigh.
"Well, if you can think of something better I'd love to hear it, cause we're running out of time here" Liam scowls.
"It's Alligator you idiots" I shrug simply.
Toby shushes us all and repeats the answer into the phone.
"Congratulations!" The woman says. "You have now won your fabulous free family holiday in Florida" The boys all start to celebrate whilst I sigh, knowing they aren't thinking this through.
"Please hold for one of our sun screen representatives" The lady on the phone says.
