Gender Ideals
Shapeshifters keep biological sex and gender apart, and generally refer to everyone by gender-neutral terms until they are told what gender the individual identifies as. This also means that children are referred to gender neutrally until they have determined their own gender identity. Unless their gender identity is neutral, of course, in which case the gender neutral pronouns are permanent.
