Shapeshifters have no monetary system, but instead work on the assumption that everyone will contribute what they can and want to to anyone who wants or needs it. If one person needs a new fishing rod, that person asks the fishing rod maker for one, and the fishing rod maker gives them one, because this person is expected to give back something the fishing rod maker needs later (could be fish, could be something entirely different).
