I jumped when a consistent banging sounded through the small room, the noise caused by Taylor's relentless banging on the door.
"What're you doing?" I had groaned, rubbing at my tired eyes while I starred at her. She stopped the pounding of her fist and turned to look at me, frowning while she slid to the floor.
"D-does he ever mess with you?" She asked, ignoring my previous question. "Like mess with you, mess with you?" She elaborated, a kink to her dark brows.
"He hasn't." I had told her whilst standing from my seat, walking over to her crouched position and situating myself beside her. "So what were you doing?" I asked again and she sighed before resting her head against the door.
"I was trying to get the door open." She shrugged uselessly, a dry laugh moving from her chapped lips.
"I've already tried." I weakly smiled, bringing my legs up to my chest. A simple silence had enveloped us as we studied the wooden wall, her head fell onto my shoulder.
"Where do you live?" I asked curiously. She lifted her head and turned her body to face me.
"I live in a small town, it's nice though." She shrugged, her eyes gleaming with memories.
"So like, the country?" I pushed as I took in her blue jeans and green top.
"No...just not a big city." She scoffed, automatically getting defensive at my inquiry.
"So like...the poor?" I tried again, not understanding what she was getting at do to her lack of details.
"Well I'm not rich if that's what you're asking." She scoffed at me and crossed her arm, glaring at me with her brown eyes. "Why are you so prissy?" She asked rudely.
"I was just curious!" I protested, feeling as though the girl was judging me as though she knew me.
"We're kidnapped and have no idea where we are and you're curious if I'm rich or not?" She asked sarcastically, blinking at me in disbelief.
"Sorry." I deadpanned, finding the girl slightly annoying because of how judgmental she was.
"Do you even have anyone who would care that you're gone?" She asked smugly, smirking at me as though she thought I wasn't missed.
"Duh."
I heard the man's footsteps from behind the door and hurried to sit at the desk, staring at the wall in anticipation. He opened the barrier just as Taylor sat on top of the mattress and I watched as he grabbed her scrawny arm. Taylor screamed in fear and with wide eyes, I went to help her. No matter if I disliked her, I wasn't going to let her die.
I grabbed ahold of the man's arm, which caused him to temporarily release his hold on Taylor's limb long enough for me to kick him where no man should ever be kicked. He shrunk to the floor as I pulled Taylor by her arm out of the bedroom door. I slammed the door closed as Taylor ran into the kitchen to grab the keys from the counter, quickly handing them to me so I could lock the door.
When the door was secured we hurried outside, rushing to the car that was out in the drive way, and clambered into the seats. I rushed to start the car after locking it's doors, my shaky hands fumbling with the keys as I did so.
I drove through the yard instead of backing up in hopes that it would be faster and quickly sped down the long driveway. Taylor looked relieved when we had made it onto the paved road and we continued to drive away from the horrid cabin.
"Sarah look, it's a state sign!" She excitedly stated, pointing at the green sign on the side of the road. I had slowed the car to read the words displayed on the metal and felt myself shrink at the greeting.
