California? California.
"No, no, no, no!" I panicked, my nerves shot as the sign taunted me. How? I turned back onto the highway, my mind elsewhere as I continued driving. The road becoming darker and darker, until it was nothing but blackness.
✴
My vision was disoriented when I had first opened my eyes, the bright light not helping my sight. I used my arms to sort my bodyweight so I could study the room, eyeing all of the appliances that were stocked in the space. I gathered that I was in a hospital, the heart monitor that was beside my bed let out monotone beeps as my heart hammered against my chest.
My body ached as I studied the needles injected in my skin and the bruises and cuts etched on my skin. Scared, I picked up the small hospital remote and pressed the large red help button repeatedly, not stopping until a nurse ran into the room.
"Are you alright?!" She had panicked as she rushed over to my heart monitor and begun pressing a few buttons. She even pulled out her own stethoscope to check the beating herself before I had interrupted her.
"I-i'm fine." I staggered as the women clad in scrubs looked at me unsurely, still doing a basic checkup despite my statement. "Where's Taylor?" I asked in realization, there only had been one hospital bed in the smaller room.
"You're speaking of the other female in the crash?" She questioned, wrapping the stethoscope around her shoulders.
"Crash?" I gasped whilst staring down at my wounded body. I had no memory of ever being in a crash? The women sighed, a small frown was pulling at her lips.
"Sweetie, you and I'm guessing, Taylor?" She asked and I nodded in confirmation so she'd continue. "Well, you two were in a bad accident on the interstate." She explained solemnly, eyes full of worry.
"Then where's Taylor?" I pressed further, worried that something bad had happened to her. The nurse looked apprehensive when she began to form her words, she couldn't even look me in the eye.
"Taylor is on life support." She revealed, eyeing my expression unsurely. My eyes had widened at the revelation and I sat up completely almost immediately.
"B-but," I stuttered as I looked at the lady in disbelief, "I only have a broken bone." I reasoned, gesturing to the cast that was wrapped around my right arm. "How'd she get so badly hurt?"
"From the police report," she said as she aided me back to my lying position on the hospital bed. "It showed that the car had crashed into a light pole. I guess it was a rather old light for it fell right on the car." She frowned as she lifted the blankets over my frame.
"But I seem to be fine." I argued and she nodded, letting out an exhausted puff of air.
"Yes, yes you are extremely lucky." She agreed, standing by the side of my bed while she continued. "But the pole fell on the passenger side of the car, causing that whole side of the roof to cave." She had frowned.
"Will she be ok?" I wondered unsurely, hoping with all my heart that she had been okay.
"Trust me, your friend will be just fine." She had promised and at the time I sank down into the matress with relief. If only I had noticed the slight edge to her and glint to her eyes. "Now get your rest." She instructed, grabbing her clip board from the little basket under the monitor.
"Okay." I obligated, pulling the blanket up until it reached my chin.
"But someone with wake you every thirty minutes or so to insure you do not have a concussion." She had lastly said before walking out of the room and closing the door behind her. After she departed I decided that rest was something I could definitely use at the time, so I turned on my side so I was facing away from the door and closed my eyes.
I remember it had been only a few minutes since the nurse left, maybe five at the most, before the door clicked open again. I had kept my eyes closed in figuration that it was probably the same physician from early.
"Hello Sara." The deep gruff voice had spoken, a dry chuckle echoing of the hard walls. My eyes had widened in disbelief as I hurried into a sitting position. The man continued to approach the bed, so I had hurried to stand on the opposite side of it's frame.
I ran for it when he reached the opposite side of the bed and grasped ahold of the cold door handle. I was about to open it when that damned white cloth was pressed over my mouth. I tried to hit him with my elbows, but his grip was too tight. The last thing I remembered seeing before I passed out completely was my nurse entering the room with a black wheelchair.

I had woke up in shock and screamed as soon as my eyes registered light. The man, who was in the driver seat, swerved in shock before turning to glare at me. My own eyes had widened when I realized I was strapped to the passenger seat, the seatbelt not being the only restraint.
"Where are we going?" I demanded to know, tuning to look at him in determination.
"Somewhere different." He states smugly, smirking at the road as he drives. I looked around in hopes of seeing a sign, but was interrupted by his obnoxious laugh.
"We already passed the state sign." He said happily, grinning from ear to ear as he drove.
"Why Taylor and I?" I asked him in curiosity, watching as he continued to silently glare at the road. "Do you know she's on life support?" I questioned harshly.
"Yeah," he laughed, "Taylor's on life support." He continued sarcastically. I didn't realize it at the time, but it was like he had know she wasn't.
"She is." I protested further, upset that he wasn't taking me seriously, "so why me and her?!" I shouted.
"Because Sarah..." He drew out menacingly, "you and Taylor are my daughters.
