Sarah's pov

I had expected Taylor to be shocked, angry even, at the new information I had given her. That would just be a common reaction, to be in denial. Obviously I was waiting for her to do such, maybe even yell at me like she seemed to love to do.

I couldn't have helped but widen my eyes in shock when she did neither of the options. In fact, she laughed. She did not chuckle, no, she rolled her head back and laughed in hysteria.

"Are you okay?" I timidly asked after her laughing had dyed down. She was still chuckling slightly, but she seemed approachable. Jessica was even looking at me with wide, scarce eyes.

"That's funny." Taylor smiled, ignoring my question completely. An awkward silence had settled over the three of us and Jessica had continued to look back at Taylor through her review mirror.

"I promise I'm telling the truth." I told her sadly, frowning when she rolled her eyes.

"So...the hospital, right?" Jessica spoke up, tilting her head to look at me. I pondered over her question, staring out at the blank road while my brain racked the possibilities. I didn't know this area, so even if I had wanted to go somewhere else besides the emergency center, I would be out of luck.

"Yeah, just take us there." Taylor answered for me, catching both me and Jessica off guard. I wanted to interject at first, knowing that the hospital would be the first place the man would look after realizing I'd escaped. I knew it would be no use though, Taylor would never listen to me.

The rest of the drive was silence, no one spoke as the low hum of the motor rattled the car gently. I layed my head against the glass of the window, the sound of the wheels turning against the pavement lulling me to sleep.

*

It was all too soon that my body was pulled from the abias of sleep, Jessica's hand timidly shaking my thigh. I lifted my head from the window and groaned inaudible at how stiff my neck felt. I stretched out my arms as I observed my surroundings, the light of day already fading as we were parked idle in the hospital parking lot.

I followed Taylor and Jessica into the lobby, pacing my steps with theirs as they led me to the front desk. She most have noticed our frightened expressions, for she stood from her chair and rushed to Jessica's side.

"Jessi, baby, what happened?" The women had rushed, clasping ahold of Jessica's scrawny shoulders and pulling her into a hug.

"I'll explain," Jessica began before reaching over the desk and grabbing the hospital phone, placing it in our reach. "But they need to call their parents."

"My mom lives close by." Taylor had revealed, I had felt jealousy rush through my veins. Taylor walked to the edge of the desk and grasped ahold of the phone. She punched in the numbers before raising the device to her ear. I looked at the ground while Taylor waited for someone to receive her call, feeling unsure of what to do since I have no one close by to call. The police, maybe?

"I don't have anyone here to call." I had told Jessica and the women at desk, I had inferred the lady was Jessica's mother despite their pigmentation difference.

I saw Jessica's mom's mouth twitch at the corner, forming a somewhat crooked smile. Jessica's gaze connected with the women's and she too, lightly smirked. Jessica placed her hand on my shoulder, the shoulder closest to her.

"That's too bad. . ."
