Vernon laughed, then proceeded with his query that led to his persistent callings this whole day. He's annoying but I'm thankful enough that he actually brought something important to discuss rather than just trash talking.

Once the urgent settlement is done, I note down the other additional details on my tablet so I would remember to check on that once I'm back from this trip.

"So when are you going back?"

"Later."

"Later today?"

"Yeah. I'll notify you about the adjustment soon."

We were only silent for two seconds when Vernon thought it's a great idea to bring up his previous agenda which I assume is his other reason why he's harassing me with the calls.

"Oh, pudding will be back then."

At the mention of Cody, I put down my tablet's pencil and took my phone just beside me on the table. Turn off the speaker and bring it to my ear. I don't want to risk Cody to hear us bickering.

"You seem oddly excited."

"Well, I wasn't able to contact him for a week now because my calls went straight to voicemail." He snickered. "You are so obsessed, Derek. There's no way Cody blocked me out of nowhere. He looked way too happy to see me on the video call the other day." (Chapter 56)

"I'm surprised you didn't realise he was just being nice."

"What if he's just being nice to you either?" He's probably smoking as I heard him blowing out smoke as he scoffed. "Just hurry and bring that little pudding back. He's been stuck with you for almost a week. He must be tired."

"He's having fun just fine. Don't go and assume such a thing if you know nothing. And how the hell do you know where he is? Are you stalking him?"

"We're the same, Derek. Don't make me throw up." He snickered. "I asked Tara your whereabouts, because I knew pudding was coming with you. He vanished suddenly and didn't even show up to his work. That's enough to confirm it."

"He's my employee. I can do whatever I want with him."

"Yeah, right. You're panicking because he'll be alone with me if you went on the trip. Besides," Another blow. "He's leaving in three weeks so you probably went berserk on winning his heart right now, aren't you?"

I remain silent.

"Did you win?"

I would have if you didn't interrupt us back then.

He snickered. "Okay, just be sure to bring that cutie back in one piece. I missed him so much already."

As I was about to turn it off, I heard him say "It's my turn." Then he ended the call before I could.

I discarded my intentions on doing work and went to bed. The call with that bastard successfully fucked up both my head and mood. He's slick enough to smoothly pull out that trick about our returns and it's not like I can push our flight any further. Cody will kill me.

I stare at the boy, looking lovely as ever even while asleep. If only he knew this chaos is because of him, he would be very sad.

"Forgive me, puff, but I can't give you up that easily." Ah, I really want to touch you. Seeing how peaceful you look right now makes me want to pull you in my arms, but a promise is a promise.

I lay down beside him, facing him as I tried to sleep with the uncomfortable feeling in my heart and eventually lose my consciousness.
