Chapter 21
Reader's POV
"Ok class! Today we're switching up the seating chart. So, get up and move, you have one minute to find a new seat buddy and if you don't you'll get thrown out the window." Mr. Gavin announced, clasping his hands together.
Instantaneously, Fenrir moves away from me to sit next to Balto. Of course he would sit over there. My attention drifted to Aaron and Aphmau, Aphmau scrambled away from Aaron, desperate to make distance between the two.
I gathered my belongings and moved to sit next to Aaron at the back. At this point everyone else had chosen their seats. As I sat down next to Aaron, I put my notebook onto the desk.
"Hey." Aaron waved, a small smile on his face.
"Hay is for horses." I giggle out.
"Yeah, whatever." Aaron playfully rolls his eyes, his attention shifting back to the board.
"So... do you want to maybe hang out at my house after school? My mom's not gonna be home. We could play some video games." I invited Aaron over to my house, my face growing red in embarrassment and disbelief that I just asked AARON to come to my house ALONE.
"Yeah, sounds fun. Just wait for me at the front of the school. I have to go grab something from my locker before we go."
I nodded my head, confirming that I would wait at the front of the school after class. Students whispered to each other, looking back at the two of us before whispering and giggling to each other. My cheeks grew hot in embarrassment. They were definitely talking about us.
.
I was standing out at the front of school waiting for Aaron. While waiting, a certain student caught my eye. Zane was with a meif'wa girl, he looked so awkward during the entire interaction. I couldn't help but giggle a little at his awkwardness.
"What are you laughing at?" Aaron asked, approaching me.
I pointed at Zane becoming flustered at how the girl was thanking him and calling him cool.
Aaron wordlessly grabbed my hand and dragged me away from the scene.
Aaron was holding my hand. AARON WAS HOLDING MY HAND! My tail wagged behind me as a smile grew on my face.
When we left school grounds, he let my hand go. I wanted to complain, to reach for his hand and hold it again. But I restrained myself. We were just friends. Nothing more.
It wasn't until my stomach started hurting when I interrupted the silence. "Aaron. I'm hungry! Do you have any food?"
"Why would I have food?" He asked, throwing me a puzzling look over his shoulder.
I shrugged, still trailing behind him. "I don't know, but do you?"
"No! But the sooner we get to your house, the sooner you can eat."
I puffed my cheeks out and pouted knowing Aaron was right.
Sighing, he stopped abruptly. Without enough time to react, I crashed into his back. "Aaron! Give me a warning next time before you stop! Why'd you stop anyways?" I asked, rubbing my nose tenderly.
Aaron turned back to look at me. "How about I give you a piggyback ride, so we can get to your place quicker."
My face lit up (no, not on fire) with joy. "Wait, really?" I asked in disbelief.
"Really." He answered before crouching down.
My mind took a moment to process what was happening. Aaron just offered me a piggyback ride. Was this real?
