Chapter 18

Reader's POV

I breathed deeply. I was in the locker room, all dressed and hyping myself up for the sports events ahead. After a few more deep breaths, I tied my hair up into a sporty ponytail and left the locker room to head outside. To be honest, I had no idea what to look forward to, who we were going to compete against and when. But I was excited to get my adrenaline rushing.

I walked outside to meet with the rest of my class, Freshmen Class B. I walked past Katelyn and Teony who were talking about pacing themselves.

"Katelyn, it's important you pace yourself. Don't exert yourself just to win this competition!" Teony scolded Katelyn.

"But I've been training all year for this! I'm going to take that Junior Class down if it's the last thing I do!" Katelyn spoke with a fire in her eyes.

"Good luck Katelyn, Teony!" I shouted, waving while walking past them.

Teony gave me a friendly wave as I walked by.

"You'll wish you won't go up against me, Y/N!" Katelyn raged while in a heat, getting ready for her upcoming match in volleyball.

"I hope I won't go up against you" While I could probably hold my own against Katelyn on the volley ball court, I know she would probably break my bones if I even thought about winning against her while she was like this.

I finally arrived to my class.

Dottie came rushing at me, her ears up in excitement and her tail wagging behind her. "Alpha! You're here! I'm so excited I get to compete with you!"

"Yeah, I'm excited for the competition ahead! It's going to be so fun!" I replied with the same enthusiasm as her.

"Our first track event of the day will be Freshmen Class B vs Junior Class C!" The announcer announced.

"Our class versus a junior class? I don't think I know anyone from that junior class."

Dottie nodded her head in response. "Yeah! I don't think I know anyone from that class either!"

Our homeroom teacher grabbed our attention. "Alright! For this track event, we'll need two participants."

I immediately raised my hand as a volunteer. I would love to race on the track.

A meif'wa boy volunteered, hesitantly.

"You two go to the track, they'll explain the rules for the relay race." Our teacher explained.

"Yay!" I walked to the lilac-haired meif'wa boy and greeted him. "My name's Y/N! What's yours?"

"M-Mikai!" He backs up from me a little.

"We'll do great together!"

We both walked to the track to meet with the other two participants and the emcee.

Upon reaching the track. I observed our competitors. They were two girls. One had fiery red-orange hair with blue eyes. The other had violet hair and orange eyes.

"Hello! I'm Cadenza! This is Elvira! Pleasure to meet you!" The fiery-haired junior gestured to the stoic violet-haired girl beside her before she stuck her hand out in a show of sportsmanship.

I took her hand, shaking it. "Y/N! Great to meet you too! This is Mikai." I introduced the nervous meif'wa boy standing next to me.

"Good luck on the match!" Cadenza wished with a closed-eye smile.

"You too!" I smiled back, excited to get started.

"Please listen as I explain the rules." The four of us turned our attention to the emcee before he explained the rules.
