lately, y/n and draco had been arguing almost daily. draco had grown distant, retreating into himself, and avoiding any meaningful conversation. y/n wanted nothing more than to understand what was troubling him, to reach out and help, but every attempt she made seemed to push him further away. her patience finally broke, leading to yet another argument.
"all i wanted was to talk to you! why are you making it such a big deal?" y/n questioned, her voice tight with frustration.
"because you're being so fucking annoying, and i don't want to talk!" draco snapped, his voice echoing off the walls.
hurt flashed across y/n's face. "why are you being so mean?" she whispered, feeling her eyes begin to water.
"stop being a baby!" draco shouted, his anger flaring as he kicked her nightstand, sending it crashing over. objects clattered to the floor, a glass shattering with a sharp, final sound.
y/n's eyes widened in shock as she brought a hand to her mouth, watching as draco stormed out, slamming the door behind him and leaving her alone with her tears and the chaos he'd left behind.
she continued to sob quietly, her gaze falling to the upturned nightstand and the mess scattered around it. slowly, she made her way over and knelt down, gingerly beginning to pick up the shattered glass, her fingers trembling as she worked. piece by piece, she cleared the floor, tossing the broken fragments into the trash before gathering the scattered belongings and setting them aside.
after a while, her tears subsided, but the ache in her chest lingered. she hadn't seen draco since he'd stormed out, and honestly, she wasn't sure she wanted to. sighing, she lifted the nightstand and carefully pushed it back to its place by her bed. her heart sank as she noticed the scratches and dents on its surface—a reminder of draco's anger.
exhausted, she sank to the floor, resting her head in her hands as she tried to process what had just happened. a soft knock at the door broke through her thoughts, and she looked up, wiping her face.
"who is it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"it's me," draco's familiar voice came from the other side of the door, softer now, almost hesitant.
y/n sighed, her voice weary. "i don't want to see you right now."
"please, y/n," he said gently. "just...let me in."
after a pause, she gave in with a sigh. "fine."
draco opened the door, his eyes scanning the room. he seemed surprised to find everything neatly in place, the mess he'd caused now cleared.
"did you clean it up?" he asked, his gaze falling on the damaged nightstand.
"no, i left it all just for you," y/n replied with a hint of sarcasm.
draco ran a hand through his hair, guilt etched on his face. "i'm so sorry for everything. my father...he's made things unbearable lately. i shouldn't have taken it out on you. i never should've said those things or kicked your nightstand."
"yeah, you shouldn't have," y/n replied, her voice tinged with hurt. "it really hurt, draco."
he reached for her hand, his eyes searching hers. "i know. i'm sorry, love. please, look at me." she met his gaze, her own eyes still clouded with sadness. "i'm sorry i did this to you," he murmured. "i'll replace your nightstand."
"you better," she muttered, a hint of a smile tugging at her lips despite the lingering hurt. draco sat down beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, and she leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder as he pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
"i'll be better," he whispered into her hair, his voice soft and filled with regret. "i promise."
"you promise?" she asked, lifting her pinky finger in a small, familiar gesture.
he smiled, intertwining his pinky with hers before placing a gentle kiss on it. "i promise, my love. i love you."
"i love you too," she replied, feeling the weight of the moment settle between them as they sat together, hopeful for a better tomorrow.
