“Is everything alright?” My wife waltzes into the bathroom in her sheer nightwear. She’d rolled up her hair into curls and pins for bed. I caught her eyes in the mirror.
I hated seeing worry on my wife’s face. I tried my best to keep her from my work troubles, but she always found a way to ruin significant things. Guilia walked closer to me and touched my shoulders. “My love.” She kisses my shoulder. “What’s troubling you?” I put the rag down and turned to take her lips in mine. Oh, how I loved the woman who gave me my two girls. I hiked her up my legs, and she wrapped hers around me.
“Nothing for you to worry about.” She sighs, looking into my eyes.
“We spoke about this before. Something is bothering you. Is it that man? Harold.”
“Were you eavesdropping?” I sat her on the sink.
“N— What if I was? That’s beside the point, Adrik. I saw how it riled you up when Sasha slammed the door. It’s nothing good, huh?” She bit her lip, stroking my face gently. No matter what I did, she would always find out.
“He is looking for war.”
“It’s because of Sasha, no? What about the kids?”
“Baby, I owe Sasha. I have you and my girls because of him. He acts a favour, and I’m an honourable man.”
“He can kill the officer. Why does he need you?”
“We’re talking about cartel business, Malyshka. It’s not just the officer. He works with Rafael Gamboa.” I kiss her nose.
“Don of said cartel?”
“Yes,”
“We’re going to war.” Her voice cracks, and so does my heart.
“I’ll always come home to you. You know it.” I
“I’m always scared when it comes to your job. I know you keep promises and your family safe—”
“Enough, Malyshka. Let me take care of it. Let me take care of you.” My hand slipped between her thighs, and she welcomed me.
