Chapter 12

"Jack Cooper, you are charged with treason and kidnapping. All here have agreed to sentence you to death; do you have anything to say?" Jack stood in front of King Arnold and the other royals. Nobles and the king's advisors witnessed Jack show no remorse for what he did. King Arnold stared; he wanted him to repent. Jack looked at King Arnold; he smiled at him.

"Jack, you were my friend and a great general. I trusted you. Your years of service will not be forgotten," King Arnold stands up. "I now sentence Jack Cooper to death; he is to be beheaded. In due time, we will carry out his punishment." The nobles cheer and begin to slender Jack's reputation.

The outcome saddened Princess Sophie. Jack was escorted out and taken to prison with his guard, Luke. Everyone else left, and Sophie began discussing what they needed to do. She started by postponing the wedding, "I know it was to be a memorable celebration, but under the circumstances, we cannot join."

"I understand; Helen is our priority as of right now," King Isaac said, and he wasn't too happy. Sophie told her father to send word to other ally nations for help; she would hire bounty hunters to look for them. "What do you plan on doing in the meantime?" King Arnold said. Sophie said she wanted to look into something.

It had been several days since the incident; the tournament had been canceled, and people had discovered what had happened. Some people were worried about Princess Helen and what that might mean for the kingdom.

Sophie had a flashback to that night. Jack used a barrier to trap them while Felix, Kai, and Helen fled. It took them a while to get out; Sophie sent a pursuit unit, but they didn't know which way they went. Jack and Luke were tied and questioned.

"Why did you do this," Sophie asked Jack. Jack didn't answer her. "AH, my clothes, they are ruined!" Sophie looks at Valerie, and she gets mad. Valerie told her to relax. "How can you be so calm? That man took Kai, too!" Valerie said to Sophie that he couldn't be too dangerous.

"Why do you say that?" Sophie asked. "If anything, Kai and Helen are both strong children; you've seen them. They aren't ordinary; we saw that man fight, and he didn't show much, so it seems they are in charge." Sophie calmed down a little.

Sophie turns her attention to Jack again. She tells him she will make him talk. Sophie tells her guards to return to the castle; a group escorts Jack and Luke back. Lancelot has disappeared from the scene. The festivities end, and the tournament is canceled the following day.

The nobles were called and told what had happened; they could not believe it. Some began accusing each other, while others said it was a neighboring kingdom. King Arnold called for peace; he said they would figure out what Felix wanted. He said they would attend the trial for Jack Cooper.

The people began to hear whispers of what had happened, and it spread; some became worried because they thought there would be another war. Spies listened to the rumors and investigated more before delivering the news. It was hard to keep it under wraps at this point.

Sophie met with Jack again; he was in an interrogation room. Sophie said they were investigating his home to find out any information about his involvement. Jack smiled and told her they wouldn't find anything, "Sophie, you are so caught up in all this you don't even see the real problem." "OH, you think something else is happening here; is that what he told you?"

Jack reminded her that she was reckless regarding her people, "You do anything for the kingdom. You even went against your father to help the people of this nation on another continent; you came to me for help." "Those were different circumstances," she said, uncertain of herself.

Jack leans back on the chair. "All I did was the same thing I did for you; I supported her reason to fight." Sophie gets mad. "She just doesn't get it. I repeatedly explained to her that the only way for this nation to survive was to join King Isaac. Our time has ended; it's time to move on!"
