Chapter 60: A night to remember (18+)

After dinner, we decided to just walk around for a bit, hand in hand. There was still a little sunlight, giving the district a beautiful glow as it sunk behind Wall Rose. The merchants began packing up their stalls for the day as all the kids ran home.

Mikasa: I enjoyed this time with you tonight.

Y/n: I'm glad. Work is likely to pick up in the coming days as the Maria expedition draws closer, so I wanted us to have some time together before I get swept up in the logistics and planning.

Mikasa: I'll treasure these moments when we're together, no matter how small they are.

She leaned into my body and sighed contentedly as we walked. Just then, I heard footsteps followed by giggling as a small group of kids of all ages went past us. They waved to their friends before breaking off to head home.

Mikasa: Do you picture us having kids someday?

Y/n: That's kinda abrupt, don't you think?

Mikasa: Sorry, I just saw those kids and thought of what it would be like if we had some of our own. I think you'd make a great father someday.

Y/n: To be honest it's never something I've thought about. Though I guess it might be nice to have one or two. Not anytime soon though.

Mikasa: Agreed, but it's nice to think about sometimes.

Y/n: I guess.

When we got back to the fort, the sun had just disappeared for the night. Aside from the guards at the gate and a few random scouts here and there, it seemed like everyone had gone to their rooms for the night. I walked Mikasa back to her room and waited while she got the key from her pocket. I noticed that she seemed a bit nervous because her hands were shaking slightly, though for what reason, I didn't know.

Y/n: Well, I'm gonna head back to my room and hit the sack. I want to get some training in early tomorrow.

Mikasa: No!

Y/n: Huh?

Mikasa: I-I mean, don't you want to come in for a little bit?

Y/n: I mean, I guess I can.

Mikasa: Good.

She unlocked the door and briskly walked inside. I was quite confused by her sudden actions and couldn't figure out why she was suddenly acting so strangely. Closing the door, I went and sat down on the neatly made bedside.

Mikasa: I'll just be a few minutes.

Y/n: Ok.

She headed into the bathroom and locked the door, leaving me with my thoughts.

-3rd pov-

Mikasa grasped the sides of the sink as she looked in the mirror. If she and Y/n were to take the next step then it had to be tonight. She unbuttoned part of her blouse so she could breathe easier while she was in thought.

Mikasa(in mind): Calm down. Just remember what Sasha and Historia said. You can do this!

Taking a deep breath, she left the bathroom.

I looked up as she came out of the bathroom. She had this look on her face that I couldn't quite place. It was like she wanted to tell me something but didn't quite know how to start. It reminded me of how she was when she confessed to me.
