Chapter 54: Rod's Last Stand pt. 1

-3rd pov-

Levi: Armin and Moblit, get Hange out of here. Eren, I want you, Jean, and Conny to round up Kenny's men.

Scouts: Yes sir!

The aforementioned scouts hurried to perform their duties as quickly as possible. 

Levi: Historia.

Historia: Captain Levi.

Levi: You did good, kid. But you're not done yet. The throne is vacant with your father's defeat and the royal council's dissolution.

Historia: I understand. I'll step up to the role.

Levi: Glad to hear it. After everything is settled here, we'll return to the capital where you will officially be crowned queen of humanity. The people have already been informed of this plan, so there shouldn't be any resistance. You'll also have the backing of Premier Zachary and all three regiments. 

Historia: The idea of taking on such a role is nerve-wracking, but as long as I have my friends and people I can trust, I wholeheartedly believe I can lead our people to greatness.

Levi: That's the spirit. Now, what should we do about you, Y/n? Getting captured again really pisses me off.

Mikasa: Seriously?

Y/n: He's joking, Mika. I've served with him long enough to know.

Levi: You look like shit Yeager.

Y/n: I feel like it too. They showed me things...

Levi: Like what?

Y/n: I'd rather not say right now. It can wait until we're out of here.

Mikasa: Damn right it can. I'm never letting you out of my sight after this.

Y/n(chuckles): Thanks.

Levi: I'll let you kids catch up. God knows you've earned at least that much.

He turned away from the two lovestruck teens and faced Kenny instead. The older man looked up at the man he'd raised.

Kenny: That look you've got. I don't blame you for turning it on me. I was never equipped to raise a kid. I only did it as a favor to your mom.

Levi: Why didn't you tell me we were related?

Kenny: Would you have believed me?

Levi: Probably not.

Kenny: It might not mean much, but I'm proud of what you've become. I'm sure your mom would be happy too.

Levi: Your praise means nothing to me. You're going to spend the rest of your days behind bars for what you've done. 

Kenny: Yeah well, I knew what the price was. I only wish I could've done something meaningful in this life.

Levi went to put cuffs on Kenny when he noticed Rod trying to crawl toward the puddle of liquid from the syringe Historia had smashed. Time seemed to move in slow motion as the former king stuck his tongue out and licked the puddle.

Rod(in mind): Father, Uri, Frieda. I'm coming.

A massive burst of hot air blasted through the cavern and threw everyone off their feet. As the Titan that was once Rod began to rise, the Levi squad quickly returned, having turned back upon feeling the heat and seeing the light. Everyone regrouped on the altar.

Sasha: It's even bigger than the Colossal!

Levi appeared at the top of the stairs, his arm around Kenny. The scouts reached for their blades but Levi stopped them.
