K A I

My heart pounded like a war drum in my chest, and I couldn't shake the chill creeping up my spine. I never thought it could be this bad.

"Jay, cmon! Snap out of it!" I shouted, trying desperately to reach the ninja who I knew was trapped inside. Trapped inside his own fucking body.

My voice echoed loudly off of the walls, but Jay just stood there, eyes glowing that sinister purple light and face twisted into a cruel smile.

He lunged forward, and I barely managed to sidestep the first strike. The small blade whistled past my face, a deadly reminder that Jay was trying to kill me.

No, no.

That's not right.

That's not right.

The Overlord was trying to kill me.

Adrenaline surged through my veins, flames igniting in my fists. I didn't want to hurt Jay, I really didn't. But I didn't know how else we could get away.

I hope he'll forgive me.

Desperation fuelled my movements, and I swung wildly at the slim blue figure. But with each swing, it- it felt so wrong.

This was my brother.

"Just try to disarm him!" Cole yelled, dodging a brutal swing from the snarling Ninja.

This was worse than I ever could've imagined.

My heart pounded with the desperation of fighting someone I couldn't bring myself to fully fight against.

Pull yourself together, Kai.

I punched him in the ribs, wincing as I heard a sickening crack.

I'm sorry, Jay.

He stumbled back, clutching his stomach. I took a deep breath, having this moment to redeem myself and sort my thoughts out.
This felt so wrong. This was so wrong. I didn't know what to do.

Wiping sweat off of my brow, I glanced over at Cole. He looked like he was lost in his own thoughts, eyes wide as he stared blankly at the struggling figure.

How did this happen?! Where are the others? Are they ok?

A low, guttural chuckle filled the room, bouncing off of the walls around me.

A laugh laced with malice.

A taunt that seemed to strip me of any hope with every echo.

He was laughing.

"You fools," he drawled, his words sharp and biting. God, I hated it so much. Jay wasn't like this. He didn't- he would never-

"Every blow you strike is nothing more than a wound upon your dear friend. Do you really think you can hurt me?" He laughed, a dark, twisted sound that filled the air. "I am beyond pain, beyond your petty resistance. All you're doing is destroying the one you're so desperate to save."
