K A I

I groaned, rubbing my eyes repeatedly in a feeble attempt to wake myself up. "GET UP, KAI." Cole yelled again from the bathroom, his voice muffled. I swear the bed has never felt this comfortable. I burrowed deeper into the pillow, the covers so warm and comforting- I never want to leave. My head was turned to face the wall, as if I could just ignore the world for a few more minutes. The day could wait.. just a little bit longer. Cole opened the bathroom door. "Kai..." he warned, giving me a stern look.
"Yeah yeah, I get it." I mumbled, rubbing my eyes again. The earth ninja mumbled something unintelligible before receding into the bathroom again.

With a grunt I lifted myself out of bed, climbing down the ladder and onto the hard floor. One of my feet was left uncovered, and the chill of the hard wood woke me up a bit more. The coldness wrapped around my legs and my bare arms, like a silent reminder of the early morning

It was weird. I always woke up with just one sock on. I wonder how the other one always seems to come off during the night.

Shrugging the useless thought out of my head, I walked over to the bathroom and knocked on the door. "Are you nearly done in there?" I asked, and leant against the panelling while waiting for a response. "I just got in here!" Cole complained. "Go eat breakfast with the others and you can have it after." I muttered insults under my breath.

He was ruining my routine! Great. Oh well. Now I'd just have to go and eat with the others looking like a complete mess.

Sighing, I trudged out of the door and down the hallway. It was still pitch black outside, one of the things I hated most about winter. You don't get to see the sunrise until about 7 am! Terrible. Summer is way better.

I could hear the others voices as I neared the kitchen, and as I turned the corner I saw a bleary eyed Jay waiting for his toast to pop. His eyes were closed and his head dropped, his arms leaning against the counter as he half slept. I didn't blame him, I felt just as tired. Cole's snoring was keeping me up last night, and it didn't help that we were having to wake up at 5 fucking am.

Ping!

Jay yelped, startled, as the toaster released the bread and it was sent flying into the air. Zane walked by and snatched the two pieces out of the air before they touched the floor, and tossed them onto Jays plate, the bread smoking and brown.

"What would I do without you, Zane." The lighting ninja sighed, relaxing, and sat down at the table. I joined him, grabbing a banana. "We really need to fix that toaster." I commented. Jay nodded, and waved wearily to Nya as she entered the room. She was wearing a blue oversized shirt, probably Jays, and fluffy pink hello kitty bottoms. Only my sister could pull of a look like that.

"Where's Lloyd?" I asked, peeling the banana reluctantly. "Meditating with master Wu." Nya responded, sitting next to Jay and resting her head on his shoulder.

"Already? I swear, that boy gets no sleep." The lighting ninja muttered.

Cole stomped into the room, his heavy footsteps making me wince. I hate loud noises in the morning. It was too early for this...

"Bathrooms free, spiky." I nodded and got up, tossing the empty banana peel in the bin as I left the room. I wasn't much of a breakfast person. Plus, who the hell is hungry at 5am?

Entering the bathroom, I looked at myself in the mirror and sighed. Yep, just as I thought. I look like a complete and utter mess. Dark bags under my eyes, my hair in disarray- god, I look like a ghost. Definitely need to sort this out.

My morning routine began with brushing my teeth. With a squeeze of toothpaste, the minty smell filled the air, sharp and refreshing, like a wake up call for my senses. As the brush scrubbed my teeth, it helped wash away the lingering fog of sleep that had covered my consciousness for the past 15 minutes.

Next came the hair gel, the signature look for me. I grabbed the pot, and unscrewed the lid. The gel itself was smooth and cool, and I rubbed it generously between my fingers and then guided it through my hair- each movement well rehearsed and deliberate. The strands obeyed- probably because they were so used to the routine, falling into place.

The mirror finally reflected back the image I had hoped to see when I had entered. Kai, the master of fire. I smiled. Opening the door again, Jay brushed past and blearily stumbled into the bathroom. He really wasn't a morning person. I could hear the others on the deck upstairs already, and I hurriedly wacked my Gi on before rushing outside.

The wind nipped at my exposed skin, biting my face and hands. The sun was just rising over the horizon, its pale rays struggling to break through the grey clouds currently blanketing the sky. "Cold, isn't it." Cole shivered, rubbing his hands together ferociously. "Yeah. I hope we get started soon, I don't want to turn into an icicle." I responded. I lit a small fire, and watched it dance on my fingertips, the flames helping me keep warm, and providing us with a bit of light.

Zane stood casually by the side, looking out onto the horizon. I was jealous of him right now. I wish I didn't feel the cold. That'd be so great.

Lloyd entered, closely followed by master Wu. I quickly snuffed out my fire, and my arms fell to my sides. The green ninja joined us by the mast as master Wu took his place in front.

"Today, ninja." He spoke, holding his bamboo stick tightly. "We will be learning about control."
