Naomi sat on the floor of her small town home, listening to Sade's soft music in the background. She was packing up the last few boxes, preparing for her move to Los Angeles. Her mind wandered, wondering where this journey would take her.
Taking a moment to look around the room, she saw all her artwork lined up against the wall. She smiled, proud of where she was at the moment. From being placed in a psychiatric ward due to her mother's suicide to becoming a psychiatrist and therapist herself, she had come a long way.
Though this career path was more her grandfather's idea, she couldn't be more proud of herself. Her upbringing was pure and full of innocence; she never wanted for anything. Her grandparents gave her money and took care of her expensive lifestyle, but she wanted to experience things on her own. Her grandmother, Delilah Taylor, was married to her grandfather, O'Neil Taylor Jr., for forty-five years. They shared one daughter, Olivia Taylor, Naomi's mother. The couple had raised Naomi since she was 11 months old.
Naomi's decision to move to another state was driven by a recent job offer as a court-appointed therapist for the state. Despite her parents' slight disappointment about her spontaneous decision to relocate across the state, Naomi couldn't resist the opportunity. She was filled with excitement and eagerness to finally explore the world.
Naomi's childhood was sheltered from the outside world. She didn't have access to television or social media. Instead, she spent her days on her family's farm, taking care of animals and reading books.
If it weren't for her childhood best friend, Kionnie, Naomi wouldn't have known who Nicki Minaj was. She was homeschooled throughout her life and graduated at the age of sixteen, thanks to her dedicated grandparents. Naomi understood that her grandparents didn't want her to follow in her mother's footsteps, who had passed away, which is why they were so strict.
Kionnie moved next door to Naomi when she was seven, while Naomi was six. They had been friends ever since. Kionnie eventually moved away to Los Angeles to pursue her career at the age of twenty, while eighteen-year-old Naomi stayed behind to complete her final year of college. Despite the distance, their small friend group kept in touch, if not every day, then at least once a week. Their friendship has remained strong, and their love for each other has only grown stronger over time .
Kionnie, her best friend, missed her dearly and longed for her close companionship. She felt that now was the perfect time for Naomi to explore and have fun, as Naomi had finally grown up and was no longer being shielded by her grandparents. Kionnie wanted Naomi to pursue her career goals and enjoy life to the fullest.
Kionnie vividly remembered how Naomi's grandparents would never let her leave their home grounds, no matter what. The only time the family would leave home was when they were all together. Kionnie had tried many times to get Naomi out of the house, but her grandfather was determined to keep her confined.
Naomi had finally packed up her entire apartment and stood on her feet, ready to move on to the next task . She wore a t-shirt and panties and walked around the house. Her cat, Chloe, soon followed behind her. Naomi stopped in front of the full-body mirror and admired her body, covered in tattoos. She couldn't help but feel grateful for her grandparents' permission to express herself in every way, from painting to tattooing. Naomi had started getting tattoos at the age of 16, right after graduating, and had created all her tattoos herself. It was the upside of being an artist—it was time-consuming and very intimate.
