Nico
All Nico wanted was a normal night...but the Fates always find a way to worm themselves with troubles through uninvited.
Campfire. A night of peace and quiet for Nico. Without an annoying Will trailing behind.
Nico managed to wriggle out of his undivided attention as soon as they lighted the fire.
On his peripheral vision, he saw Percy and Annabeth sneak out of the throngs of demigods .
He snapped the unholy thoughts out of his mind as soon as it came.
He stared at the crowd.
Not a friendly face. Even Jason wasn't around. He's probably dying of boredom at the Senate.
He sighed and closed his eyes.
Alone at last. The past few days were a drag. Everybody seemed to care. Somebody watched over him wherever he went.
Sometimes it was Annabeth. As if being stared by her wasn't unnerving enough.
Sometimes it was Jason, who always sat by Nico at the mess hall. Like a son of Zeus and a son of Hades sharing a table wasn't mind boggling enough.Mostly it was Will. Will the Annoying Doctor. Will the corn-headed idiot. He chased Nico all over camp for the healing sessions, which included listening to a whole lot of healing songs and being touched in all the righ ...wrong places he didn't want to be touched.
Even Reyna would have stayed if not for a Senate meeting at Camp Jupiter.
The past days were comfortably uneventful, eerily mortal-like, but still a drag nonetheless.
For the first time since the war, he was relieved to be alone.
Sure, the dreams never left, he doubts it will ever leave...he would wake up screaming his head off and sweating like the river Styx, angry and foul.
At that certain moments, he wished for company. Not like he will ever admit it to anyone.Solitude.
Even the shadows amounted nothing to Nico.Sitting on an empty log on the farthest place from the campfire, where the firelight reached him just enough, he can feel the shadows clawing for him, to feed on his anguish.
Nico ignored it. He had been good at ignoring things for a while now.
Well... Maybe not good enough.
On the flickering lights, the son of Hades saw two slender shadows.
He looked up and caught a glimpse of two women sitting cross-legged on the hearth. The demigods ignored both their presence.
Goddesses, he thought. Who else could it be.
One of them turned to his direction, the fire reflecting on her soft eyes. The pleasant warmth in her eyes pulled Nico like iron to a magnet.
Before he knew it, he was approaching them with surprising eagerness.
He stopped right in front of the goddess and bowed his head in acknowledgement.
"Lady Hestia," Nico muttered.
"Son of Hades. How are you?" Lady Hestia asked.
Nico blinked.
He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
