Nico

Everything is new. Nico feels like jumping out of his skin.

"Is this alright?" Nico asked as he brought his shabti to life.

Carter was staring at it. He seemed to forget his question.

Sadie looked up from her magazine.
"Impressive. You can already make an almost perfect shabti in just a month's training..."

"It's three weeks," Carter added.

The blond girl rolled her eyes and ignored his brother.

Nico's knees wobbled, knocking off the furnitures.

Sadie flipped a page.
"Do not strain yourself. Even a talented magician loses its magic reserves.."

"I had to, if I don't, Reyna and Coach will..."

"Yeah yeah. But you don't need to worry about that kick-ass praetor."

Dark spots filled his vision.

Carter offered his hand and pulled him up.
"Give yourself a break. You've made those shabtis thrice this week."

Nico waved his words aside as he sat on the love seat.
Geez. Why do they have a love seat?

"I'm fine," Nico muttered.

"No you're not. And those were not ordinary shabtis. That's like..."

Sadie snorted.
"Like Zia's shabti? Is that what you're about to say?"

Nico didn't know who Zia was, but based on Carter's embarrassed expression, she must be someone important. Sadie once mentioned that Zia's a fire elementalist and she became Nephtys' host as well as Ra's.

He knew something out of his lessons with Carter. And from that, he concluded that she must be really powerful to be able to host two gods. And flexible too. Hosting Nepthys, whose power is the river, and hosting Ra, whose literally the sun... Fire and water. Somehow, it made Nico want to meet the girl.

A blue orb floated above him. He reached out and took it in, the shabti's memories flashing on his mind like a replay.

After studying the memories, he took the crackers out of the tea table.

The Kane siblings weren't done bickering yet.

"Sooo.." Nico said in between bites. "When will she be here?"

"Who?" Carter asked, confused.

Nico gave him a sinister smile.
"You're girl. Zia, right?"

Carter looked flustered.
"NO! SHE'S NOT MY GI..."

"He wishes she is though," Sadie said casually.

"THAT'S NOT TRUE!"

"You're blushing," Nico teased.

"Ooooohhh. A blushing Carter.."

"SADIE!!"

"Well, you three look like you're enjoying yourselves," Walt's voice interrupted them. He was standing at the door.

Sadie imediately closed her magazine.
"Walt! Anubis!"

Nico couldn't suppress his groan.
"She sounds like a dirty adulterer."

Sadie glared his way.
"I heard that!"

"It was supposed to be a whisper."

Carter laughed, immediately earning another glare.
"Sorry. That was true though."
