Kai let out a tired sigh as she zipped up the last suitcase, leaning her weight on it before slowly standing. She scanned the room to make sure she hadn't missed anything. Meanwhile, Billie was sprawled out on the bed, her phone held inches from her face as she scrolled through videos, snickering at random clips and audios, each one bleeding into the next in a chaotic symphony of sound. Billie's chuckles punctuated the silence, her attention completely absorbed.

Kai watched her for a moment, trying not to get annoyed but feeling that familiar tension rise. She made her way over, straddling Billie, and gently plucking the phone right out of her hands, tossing it onto the bed beside them.

"Hey!" Billie protested, momentarily annoyed. But her irritation faded as she looked up at Kai, taking in the exhaustion on her face.

"Are you going to start packing yet?" Kai asked, her voice softer than her words. "Greg said we're leaving at midnight, and all your stuff is still everywhere." She couldn't hide her frustration entirely. She knew Billie's last-minute ways well enough by now, but this time she'd hoped for a little more urgency.

"I will, don't worry," Billie replied with a laid-back smirk, her hands sliding up to rest on Kai's thighs as she attempted to ease the tension. Her gaze shifted to the ring she was wearing—the skull ring she'd almost lost forever. She twirled it slowly around her finger, lost in thought. "I'm still getting used to having this back," she murmured, almost to herself, her gaze intent on the gleaming band. She traced her finger over it, as if rediscovering each curve and detail. "I missed it so much."

Kai looked at her, noticing the depth in Billie's eyes as she continued.

"You know... growing up, I'd see people wearing rings like this—sleek and bold. I thought if I had one like it, maybe I'd look cool too, like I could be part of that world. But I never had the money," Billie explained, her voice soft and a little wistful. "Every time I saved up, something else would come up. And that dream would just slip a little further away."

She paused, her eyes shining as the memory settled between them. "Then, when I signed with my label, I got my first check. It felt unreal. I remember walking into this stupidly expensive jewelry store and seeing this exact ring in the case... and finally, it was mine. For the first time, something I'd dreamed about was right there, on my hand." She looked up at Kai, a mixture of pride and nostalgia in her gaze. "It wasn't just a ring. It was... proof, you know? Proof that things were actually happening."

Kai's eyes softened as she took in Billie's story, feeling the weight of each word. She gently placed her hand over Billie's, tracing her fingers along the ring. "Proof that you've always had the strength to make it, even when things got hard." Kai whispered softly.

Billie looked back down at it, her smile widening as she squeezed Kai's hand. "Yeah," she murmured. "And now, it means even more."

Kai smiled as her hands moved down, rubbing along Billie's stomach in a soothing rhythm. "I'm just so glad you got it back. That little scare tactic of yours was perfect."

Billie looked down, her expression turning thoughtful. "Yeah... it was." Billie trailed off, her voice hinting at something more. She looked away for a second, hesitating. "You know, co-manager doesn't sound like a bad job for you." She glanced back up at Kai with a playful glint, her smirk returning.

Kai laughed, leaning down so her face was level with Billie's, her expression incredulous. "Imagine? I'd ruin your career in a week," she teased, planting a quick kiss on Billie's lips.

"No but, I'm serious, Kai. Would you actually consider it?" Billie's eyes held a sudden sincerity, catching Kai off guard. Before Kai could respond, her phone buzzed, breaking the moment.
