A small slice of heaven

Billie navigated the hallway, arms straining as she juggled a precarious load—two extra pillows, fresh sheets, blankets, and, draped on top, two plush robes and towels. She could feel each item slipping slightly, threatening to spill, and as she reached her door, she awkwardly maneuvered her hand into her pocket, fumbling for the keycard. With a sigh of relief, her fingers finally found it, and she swiped it against the sensor, hearing the lock click. She nudged the door open with her hip and pushed inside, the door closing with a soft slam as she let it go.

Breathing out, Billie shuffled forward, her steps slow and deliberate as she made her way into the room. She kicked her shoes off with ease, leaving them by the door, and crossed to the bedroom couch. She dropped everything onto the cushions in a haphazard pile, releasing a soft sigh as she flexed her sore fingers. For a moment, she just stood there, letting herself catch her breath, the quiet of the room settling around her.

Turning to the bed, Billie noticed the tangled sheets still in disarray, rumpled from earlier. She moved over, her fingers finding the fabric's cool surface as she began to strip the damp sheets that had remnants of their earlier activities. She bundled them into a ball, tossing them toward a corner, where they landed with a soft thud. It felt strangely satisfying to clear the bed, a small act of reclaiming the space.

Returning to the couch, she grabbed the fitted sheet, unfolding it with a gentle shake. She spread it over the mattress, carefully aligning the corners, though the fabric kept slipping from her hands. Frustration bubbled up as she wrestled to get the last corner tucked, and she ended up throwing herself onto the bed, pressing down to stretch the fabric. Her body weight only seemed to work against her, though, and she groaned, feeling the ridiculousness of the moment.

Just then, she heard the bathroom door creak open. She looked up to see Kai peeking out, her face lit with a teasing smile as she took in Billie's struggle.

"Need some help?" Kai's voice was laced with amusement.

"No, i got it," Billie grunted, giving one last tug that finally settled the sheet in place. She stood up, brushing off her hands and flashing a stubborn smile, as if to prove her point. She grabbed the top sheet, giving it a playful toss into the air, watching it billow and settle like a parachute over the mattress. She smoothed it down, glancing over her shoulder as she felt Kai's gaze on her.

"Are you almost ready?" Kai asked softly, her tone gentle as her eyes lingered.

"Yeah," Billie said, smoothing out the last few wrinkles in the sheet before glancing up at her, offering a warm smile. "Just a second."

Kai returned the smile, ducking back into the bathroom and leaving Billie to finish making the bed. Billie arranged the pillows, her fingers pressing them into place with casual care. It wasn't perfect, but it had a kind of comfortable coziness to it, a little messy yet inviting.

Finally, she picked up the robes and towels and made her way to the bathroom. When she walked in, the scene made her pause. Kai was kneeling by the side of the tub, her hand moving in slow circles through the water, creating small ripples and bubbles. Kai was nearly naked, just her black lace panties still on, and Billie couldn't help but admire her bare back, her shoulders, the curve of her waist—a sight Billie had missed more than she wanted to admit.

"Oooh, you managed to get robes?" Kai asked, her face lighting up with excitement as she stood, water droplets running down her arm.

"Yup! This hotel doesn't provide room service, though." Billie rolled her eyes, setting the towels and robes on the sink counter with an exaggerated sigh. "We'll just have to order food ourselves later."

Kai nodded, giving a small, understanding smile, and took a tentative step closer, though her movements carried a subtle hesitation. Even though they'd shared such a raw moment earlier, that small barrier remained, and Billie's heart sank a bit, recognizing the lack of trust that lingered between them. It was a rift she'd caused, and it stung, knowing the distance was her own fault.
