"When can we see dad again?" Nilan asked Karina for the 5th time this week. Karina took a silent deep breath and looked at Nilan who was sitting at the island.
"We will see him next weekend, NiNi." She said before looking at Sage who was shaking his head slightly. "Can you go help your brother clean up, please?" Nilan nodded and left Karina and Sage alone in the kitchen.
"How many times she asked you that this week?" Sage asked.
"That was the 5th. It's like she expects a different answer every time." Karina said while washing her hands.
"She'll get a different answer when the day comes closer, but how are you though?" Sage asked as he sipped his drink.
"I'm..." Karina didn't know what to say. "...alive." She glanced at Sage before turning away.
"Rina-"
"Mama?!" Ever said as he entered the kitchen.
"Yes?"
"I think I broke the vacuum." He said scratching his head.
"And how you do that?" Karina asked.
"Ion know. I was just vacuuming and next thing you know it's making a weird noise." Sage walked over to Ever and took the vacuum.
"Nigga you can't vacuum socks." Sage said smacking his lips and pulling the sock out.
"Ian know I vacuumed a sock NIGGA!" Karina shot Ever a look that made him quickly take the vacuum and leave out.
"Don't snatch his lips off his face, Rina. He was just playing." Sage said with a smirk. Karina chuckled softly and rolled her eyes.
"Shut up." Karina said.
It was Ever's birthday today and all he wanted was to have Tiara over for dinner. Besides his family, Tiara was the only one who got more than one sentence out of him and didn't get annoyed in her presence.
"Have you been sleeping?" Sage asked as he cut the bell peppers.
"Uhh a little bit. Melatonin isn't working so I think I need something stronger." Karina said as she uncovered the marinated chicken. Sage raised an eyebrow and looked at her.
"Stronger like what?" Karina looked at him confusedly.
"Oh my- Sage I'm not talking about drugs! I would never!" She whisper yelled to him.
"My bad I shouldn't have assumed." Karina shook her head and began to pour oil into a pan. "You haven't answered my question tho."
"I did some research and saw something about an herb called Valerian Root. I think I'm going to drink it rather than take capsules tho."
"Might have to see what that's talkin about."
"I heard it's really go-"
"Ma?!" Ever said again as he walked into the kitchen.
"Yes?"
