Iris’s Pov

I sat on the edge of my bed in the rustic pinewood cottage, the air heavy with the scent of aged wood. As I lay back, the events from earlier clawed at my mind, sending a chill down my spine. Fear tightened its grip on me, cold and unrelenting. I squeezed my eyes shut, desperate to banish the haunting memory of what had happened before.

“What is happening?” I muttered under my breath as I opened my eyes, unable to sleep. My mind drifted back to the moment when I saw the letter.

Flashback

A car on a highway…tumbled upside down…two people in it

One woman and one man.

The man was crawling towards the woman’s body.

Blood was everywhere.

They were bleeding badly.

My mind went blank as my breathing became shallow.

“No…” These words came out barely as a whisper as pain and despair could be clearly heard in my voice. My hands trembled as the picture slipped from my hand falling on the ground. I felt that my legs would give up any time as my entire body started trembling. Images from the past came running in front of my eyes.

N-No…This can’t be. I thought as I fell on the ground with a loud thud. I felt like someone was choking me when absolutely no one was there in my room. Tears ran down my eyes like a waterfall as I clutched my hand into a fist trying to calm myself. I brought my knees up till my chest as I buried my face in it breathing heavily. My tears soaked into my pants as I gripped on my hair pulling them feeling like my head was about to burst out. My whole body was tense and trembling as I cried and struggled to calm down. I was having a panic attack

Suddenly I felt someone touch my shoulder as I panicked and jolted back as my back hit the wall with a thud.

I felt someone gently hold both of my cheeks tilting my head up. My gaze was blurry from tears as I struggled to recognise the person. My whole body was in fight or flight mode as I trembled with the force of emotions I was feeling.

The grip on my cheeks was gentle yet firm, the stranger's touch sending a wave of unease through me. Despite the tears blurring my sight, I strained to make out their features, trying to place them amid the turmoil of my mind. My body was tense, ready to react at a moment's notice, and I found myself unable to move, paralyzed by a mixture of fear and uncertainty. All I could do was look up into their faces, waiting for them to reveal their identity.

“Iris!” The voice pierced through the fog of my emotions, faint but unmistakable.

“Ivan?” I whispered, my voice trembling and distorted, still reeling from the panic attack. I could feel the warmth of his presence, the tremor in his hands as he held my cheeks.
