CHAPTER ONE, the new greenie
༻✦༺Ada grunted as her hand fumbled to grab the hammer laid down on the ground by her hip. She groaned in annoyance until she felt her hands grasp the handle and she was able to bring it towards her head.
She laid down on her back on top of of a rough wooden mat that looked more like a door, with four small wheel, one in each corner as she laid dangerously under a wooden cabinet that was a few feet off the ground. She recklessly balanced a few nails between her teeth, before taking them out one by one and hammering them into the bottom of the cabinet she had been called to fix.
"Stupid, Gally." Ada mumbled out, careful not to accidentally swallow the nails teetering on the edge of her mouth. She slammed the hammer down onto the last nail. "Always breaking things with that shuck face of his." She complained.
A sign of accomplishment left her nostrils once she was done and she admired her handiwork. She bent her hand down to grab another nail for good measure so it would hold better than before when she heard feet shuffling into the small hut, her eyes already beginning to roll themselves.
"I thought I told you not to interrupt me when I'm fixing." Ada spoke up before the person could, reminding them of her rule. She knew who it was when they first walked in, based on the way they shuffled their feet nervously afterwards as well was an indicator her assumption was right.
"Uh — Yeah, uh, sorry, boss." The male voice said, clearing his throat like a frog. Ada raised an eyebrow when they paused for a moment, her expression signaling for them to continue even if they couldn't see it from her being under the cabinet. Luckily, the person could sense it. "It's just that — that, the box is coming up and I-I know you never miss it, and you like to be one of the first people there so you get a front row spot and —"
Ada used her biceps to push her body out from under the cabinet, the wheels of the wooden mat allowing her to use minimal muscle usage. The boy, with shaggy raven colored locks of hair immediately cut himself off, his words dying down in his throat.
"The box is coming up already?"
"Uh, yeah, well, it's been a month, so..." He trailed off, his eyes glancing everywhere but her. At first meeting him, Ada thought he was just trying to be respectable then as it continued she thought he couldn't stand the sight of her and declared him a rude boy with poor manners. Now, she has learned over the year and half she's been in The Glade he was just extremely awkward. And it was a weird adorable quirk that made Ada fond of him.
